He looked like he was 100% in that game. Maybe they keep him limited just for safety's sake, but I doubt it.

My understanding of this injury is he will not be 100% this season and will have to deal with some amount of pain. I think getting back in the lineup this past week was a good way to shake off some of the rust and I would think his playing time will increase. I could be wrong but I don't think he will be 100% until he is able to have a few months off during the off-season.

Newman said he did feel a little pain in the foot, but he was there asking to return a punt at the end of the game. He got a big fat "no" on that one.

I saw that well. What I'm saying is he may not be 100% pain free of this injury this season. Evidently where he is at right now will allow him to play but he will do so with a certain amount of pain and discomfort in that foot. I consider that if you are having to deal with pain then you are not 100%

Basically this is a chronic issue for him this season...

if he can great...if not I wont lose any sleep over it...

we should be able to beat the next two teams without major contributions from him...we do however need him to play and be effective for New England

He may not be 100%, but if it's just a little pain, it shouldn't be a problem -- call him 99.9% if you like. In the pre-game Sunday night they quoted Newman as saying he was not having any problem cutting and planting in all directions.

He is a football player I'm sure he can deal with it. Guys who can't endure a certain amount of pain do not play football and do not get to this level of the game without being able to deal with it. As Drew Pearson once said if people could only see the inside of a locker room on Monday after the game they would be amazed with what these guys are going through as they get ready to go again the following week. It is like 16 weeks of being in a car crash.

I doubt he is 99.9, just because he is able to cut both directions and plant he is still feeling it and chances are will be feeling it the rest of the season. Players do play with pain it is part of this game. Newman appears to be at a stage where he can go and that is what matters.

I would not play him this week....let him rest.

Why?

He needs to get up to game shape and speed. We only have 3 weeks before NE.

If he and the coaches believe that he can go, why continue to rest him?

I want Newman for that game. As Wade has said, no excuses. I want us to be as healthy as possible.

I'd like to keep him in the nickel for one more week. He should start the week before New England to get him fully prepared for the big game.

If he is able to, then yes, if not, no. I'm fine with it either way.

I think he need the live reps to prepare for NE. And the coaching staff needs to know what they can and can't do with him for that game. It's better if he plays and get's used to playing in the scheme against other teams, so that when the NE game comes, he is in shape and comfortable with all the calls and looks.

I don't think he can really damage it much further, if any. It is going to hurt, but it probably feels better the more you play on it. It won't be fully healed until the offseason, so as long as the pain doesn't increase I say play him.
