Will Newman Hold down his spot?

I just read a post in another forum about the pass that Merritt caught over Newman. I read it here too. But the other post described how Newman and Merritt were running stride for stride, and that the pass was thrown a little behind them, but it was Merritt who slowed dwon enough to jump over Newman and catch the ball.

I said to myself, that is typical Newman. He is always right there in position but he never makes a play for the ball.

He needs to come on now. He can and should have a lot of INTs now, he is always right there!!

That irks me.

I believe Newman will have a great year. That was one play and he was right with him, I would not be too concerned. Most CB's had a tough first half last year with the rule changes. Newman came on strong in the second half.

Stop right there...back away from the sugar packets...and calm down. :p:

I'm not worried too much, it seems like there were mental lapses from alot of the players. I think these kinds of things will get ironed out.

You also have to realize that during training camp is when this kind of thing is worked on. You are not preparing for a meaningful game, so you can focus on these things. Sure he had the offseason, but he wasn't able to practice in a team environment. Although it is the beginning of training camp, and we are all excited for football, what we are seeing now may not quite be 100%. We need to wait to judge these guys after a few practices have passed. IMO

Don't forget that it is much easier for a WR to adjust to an underthrown pass throw in his direction than it is for the CB. They don't have to worry about keeping up with someone to not get burned, just focus on the ball.

Seems to be the common gripe about TNew. Hopefully the new d-backs coach will work with him on that. Also don't forget we have 2 new free agent cb's that have been in the league a while now to help him out. So there is a lot of support for him out there. I'm still thinking he will be a good one when it is all said and done.

I'm not worried about Tnew in the least. He's got all kinds of help comming from many different directions this year and it was only the first day of practice.

This has to be one of the most out-of-perspective threads that was ever started.

Geez... Talk about out-of-touch with reality.

One play-- the first day of practice.

OH MY GOD! A corner got beat on one pass.

Get a freaking grip!

Practice........ We're talking about practice man Quote by Allen Iverson. Seriously dude EVERY training camp across america completes pass against the cornerbacks. Wait till the season and hopefully we'll have some pressue this year and then you judge him.

newman isn't good at adjusting to the ball while its in the air at all, thats his major flaw. he can keep up and hang with just about any wr but his ball awareness skills are lacking. im not sure how to fix that, its more instinctive than anything but i guess our new db coach will do his best to correct the problem.

Exactly. It's as if no one is allowed to catch a pass against our CB's in practice.

I would feel a little worse if TNew was BURNT but that is not the case.

Let the season begin already - this is ri-damn-diculous.
