Will Romo be a June 1st 2015 cut?

Recent moves suggest that the Cowboys are going into rebuilding mode. Cutting overpriced vets, clearing cap room, accelerating cap money etc. While I like Garrett, I think the odds of him returning in 2015 are slim. We'd a good draft in 2013. More good drafts this year and 2015 could see a new coaching staff taking over a young but talented team with some cap space.

Romo does not fit in with the above plans. I think the Cowboys management now know this. The interest in signing an interim starting QB for a couple of years confirms this. He can't be cut yet because there isn't the cap room to accelerate his bonus money. Wait until June 1st 2015 and its manageable. This time next year Romo will be a designated June 1st cut.

I could see it if we go 6-10. Romo would be another year older, obviously not coming off a good and/or healthy year at that point, etc.

But let's tap the brakes on this. Attempting to sign Melton and Allen shows we're not just burying our heads in the sand. We're trying to win. If we compete well in 2014 I can't see cutting the cord on Romo prior to 2015.

Only if Romo is not an NFL-quality starting quarterback. The only scenario in Jerry's mind where Romo is not the QB for the next 4 years is if he's out of the league.

The days of an interim starting QB are over. Seattle, San Fran, Carolina, even philly and Washington proved that you can win with a young QB. If this team stinks up the joint in 2014 and is in position for a stud QB in next years draft then Romo should be shown the door

I'd say no chance. 2013 was a solid season for him, and you're not going to pull the plug after just one bad year. It would take a horrific 2014 followed by a bad 2015, and then he'd be a 2016 cut.

Romo is not going anywhere unless his health dictates otherwise. He has taken a ton of hits over the years and sustained season ending injuries. It would be prudent to have a backup plan in place as a necessary precaution. That is what the Weeden interest is essentially and it is likely not going to end with him. However, if the team uses a high round (e.g. first through third) pick at quarterback next year, I would not be surprised in seeing Romo retire as a Cowboy as early as the end of the 2016 season.

would be a year or two earlier than I expect, but always possible.
the teams overall play & his recovery will dictate if he's with dallas 1,2 or 3 more years.
we would have to win a Super Bowl for him to stay beyond 3years.

I just dont get, people don't listen. Jerry loves Garrett and Garrett is going no where.
All Jones and Stephen's public comments are totally supportive of Red.
Jones is taking the long view finally.

Only if he suddenly isn't one of the top QBs in the game anymore. Even then, I think it would take more than one season.

Romo is guaranteed 15m next year. Only some of the brilliant GMs I see around here would pay him 15m and then cut him.

yet there are teams who have lost with rookie QB, Ponder, Blaine Gabbert and yet KC went to a vet in Alex Smith. There are 32 teams the situation is not the same for everyone and while some young QB will come in and have success many will not.

I reckon the chances of a young QB succeeding are very great if you give them a Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick in pass protection, a running back like DeMarco Murray to lean on, and a legitimate Top 5 WR like Dez Bryant. I cant envision a good young QB failing in those same circumstances.
