Will Romo run for TD or 1st Down when needed?

I know Tony Romo will come back throwing as good as ever. But given his history of injuries, will he be wise to run for a TD or 1st down when the opportunity arises with the threat of being hit hard. This is where Dak has done very well. I would like to see Romo back but I feel Tony may sensibly have to hold back from running in clutch situations. I believe Dak's running TD's and 1st downs have made a difference in the games we won.

I think if Romo comes back and doesn't modify his game Dak will be starting much sooner than people might anticipate...he's probably more of a pocket passer at this point in his career, age and injuries have slowed him down a lot...so I think when Romo comes back we will lose a little something that Dak brings...but we gain an experienced QB IN Romo and the Cowboys could be 6-1 when Romo returns, so do we ride this season out with Romo hoping he can lead this team to the Super Bowl, and at this point I'm thinking we have a shot...we are 5-1 without our number 1 QB and have played half the season without our number 1 receiver and have had other key injuries and missing players. I am so looking forward to the Viking garme.

This is a very good thread. Seriously have to consider what we are going to lose with Romo in running and I am sure some of his evasiveness considering he will take more sacks and throw the ball away more. He will have to avoid getting clobbered.

I think Romo is more "evasive" than Dak is.

You guys are acting like Dak is Russell Wilson back there.

"Evasive"? Uh, he looked like a dump truck when trying to be evasive against Seattle. Romo is not mobile at all anymore. Holds on to the ball too long, doesn't throw it away, forced to take sacks because he can't scramble, etc. no thanks.

Yeah, no. He is just as evasive as he has been. He's never been a runner. There's a lot more to being evasive than straight line running. But Dak is God and can do no wrong. Obviously, he is the greatest ever and Romo couldn't possibly hope be as good.

You guys are worshipping Alex Smith.

So you are worried about 3rd down conversions...

In 2014 Dallas led the NFL in 3rd down conversions. Not because Romo was Randall Cunningham either.

Now where are the threads that talk about Romo's TD percentage vs Daks?

Is this really a concern or is it a poorly disguised pro Dak thread and will be moved to the QB Zone to die a lonely death?

lol not sure why you are such a Dak hater? Do you hate seeing your team win a bunch of games and go to the playoffs?

2014 was 2 years ago. Most of us are living in 2016 now.

With Romo, our offense is a lot less dynamic, and a lot more predictable. He would not have scored the rushing TD's that Dak has this season.

In certain situations it is but Romo can also stretch the field and people that watch game tape are saying Dak has missed open guys every week.

We run a package of plays right now that make us very good with Dak that Romo just simply doesn't do.

I just don't think Tony Romo makes us a worse football team.

It's too hard of a decision and i'll accept whatever they decide...

IMO.... Dallas will go with Dak until he loses steam and then right around playoff time we will switch back to Romo.

As usual, some people want to stupidly exaggerate everything like when they say that Tony can't bootleg, when in fact he did run bootlegs in 2015. Tony will not have designed runs but yes he can run and pick up a 1st down if needed.

Ok since the past doesn't matter then the answer is Yes,
Romo will absolutely be able to run for first downs.
He will be 100% healthy so of course he will. His legs are well rested.

Is that better? Or are you going to live in the past and cry over some past injuries?

I don't question Tony's desire to win. If the game was on the line or a critical situation. I have no doubt he would do everything he could move the chains, including giving up his body/taking a hit to get a 1st down or TD.

Dak needs to do more of that. I feel sometimes he tries to complete the pass when he can easily pick up the first down or score. Nothing like breaking the will of a defense than having everybody covered and the qb scrambles for a first down or TD.

There are many good arguments for sticking with Dak, but Tony's running ability is a weak one.
Dak adds a deminsion that Tony doesn't but Tony adds abilities Dak doesn't
To me the best argument for sticking with Dak is we are winning and the offense is clicking. But then again I can support one player without bashing another
