Oh, it's not a problem. It should be blown up. Between the aging core and the salary cap, expect more average seasons until it bottoms out and that won't be long. The thirst to hold a 8-8 team together is unquenchable for some fans. This team is not a player or two away and they couldn't afford them if they were. Signing these high high price vets will cost younger talent down the road. I had much rather build around the young talent on the team and see them get a handle on the salary cap. I don't mind seeing two or three bad seasons knowing that the future will be brighter. Some fans don't see the long term advantage of starting over at this point.

You fix the Oline, and the safety position, you can contend with this team. Theres too many players like Romo, Ware, Witten etc..., to just trade them and start over. Not this year anyway. And when you do eventually blow this team up,theres no guarantee your going to contend in after "two or three bad seasons".

There is no guarantee that Ratt, Ware, Spencer, etc is going to contend. There is a guarantee that every year their trade value drops along with their production while their hit on the salary cap grows. Their salary cap hit is high enough to effect the resignings of Lee, Carter, Tyron and Dez. A huge part of the problem is that this team can't afford to pay for a great safety or oline. You can't expect to contend with a large percentage of the cap tied up in a handfull of older, diminishing players. Add Austin and Free and it really is a mess. The dead money from these players are gonna kill the cap even more in the future. Nothing says poor planning more than paying for a player that is gone and not contributing to the team.

Who says you need a great safety? And hate Jerry all you want, but Jerry has never had a problem resigning his own players. From Troy, Emmit, Michael, etc...

When Ratliff is on, he's on. My beef has never been with Ratliff as a player, although Ratliff the person is turning into a bit of a jerk, my beef has been missing the forest for the trees.

We've had one of the best pass rushers to ever play the game for some time now in Ware, but when people look at the dominant pass rush defenses of this era, the Dallas Cowboys will not be on that list.

Stars are great to have from a fan perspective, but I want a good defense, not individual stars. Stars are the cherry on top.

My problem with Ratliff at NT is that we got so caught up in his sacks that we forgot the point of the NT position is not about sacks. The defense needs to be less about tallying up these guys stats at the end of the year and about tallying up team defensive stats. Or even better, objective defensive performance as a whole.

I'm glad these guys make pro bowls and reach escalators in their contracts, but I'll be a Cowboy fan long after these guys have moved on. Jay Ratliff making 4+ Pro Bowls doesn't do me a damn bit of good if we never truly threaten for the championship in his tenure.

I think the only things that have set him back have been some injuries that has caused him to miss time and affected his play. When healthy I think Ratliff is a very good player. Unfortunately guys can't control injuries in this game.

This is a great post that will on deaf ears

Some of us are about the team and some are about individual players
