Will the lack of turnovers by the defense hurt us?

I envy other fans whose teams come up with the ball. Our D is playing VERY well right now and I am quite pleased. But it would help with field position and offensive scoring if the D would just come up with the ball more. Too many games with zero turnovers forced. It hasn't really hurt us yet, but I'm afraid it could at some point.

P.S. I'm happy about the win and the 8-3 record.

Not a lot of chances for turnovers when the D is consistently forcing 3 and outs.

It might.

I am more worried about the open wr across the middle. Had gradkowski been even a bad nfl qb he would have moved the ball really well today. He is just flat terrible, which says alot about russell.

NY, New Orleans and San Diego are going to score points on us, so our defensive ranking and all that do not matter to me.

Turnovers will be huge. If we can get some we can control the games. If not those three teams are going to score a bunch of points.

we've had our chances. Spencer has dropped or whiffed on several. he should lead the team in ints if he could catch.

I was just going to say this.

Good point, but even when our guys gang tackle, they don't seem to instinctively go for the ball. I saw Hatcher make an attempt to strip the ball once today. Even though he wasn't successful, we need more of that mentality.

The secondary just doesnt go after the ball, especially whomever plays safety for us.

I'm not sure what the problem is, Wade's defenses over the years had always been good at getting turnovers, except here and especially since the start of last season.

I've never seen a team be so futile in an effort to create turnovers for such a long period of time.

The defensive line is certainly getting pressure on opposing QB's consistently, so I'm thinking the turnovers are going to come.

With the amount of pressure we put on the QB you'd think they would force a lot of fumbles or give our DBs opportunities to jump routes.

The good thing about turnovers is that it gives your offense a short field. That'll add to our points scored. However, if they keep holding teams like they are now, I'm not sure it would really matter.

It would be nice to have more, but I don't think it's required. It'd just be nice and might come in handy in some tight games in the future.

I couldn't care less if we never get another turnover as long as they continue playing like they are.

It could definitely hurt us, especially if we turn it over ourselves.

In the 3 December losses last year, our defense faced 79 pass attempts and did not make an interception.

P.S. I like your disclaimer :D

I think we play too much man to man to get a lot of picks.

But as long as we keep the points allowed down, we'll be fine.

^^This.

If the defense only gives up 7 points or less a game, we should win pretty much every game.

I think the lack of turnovers say more about the offense than it does the defense IMO. You can't get turnovers when teams are only down by a touchdown or a field goal. Teams can still afford to play conservative. But when you have a guy like Drew Brees throwing the football around the field then the opposing team is always trailing and throwing the ball to get the deficit down. If the Cowboys had more games where they were up 14-0 or something along those lines we'd have more turnovers. That's usually when the turnovers come. But I love where the defense is at right now. And while I love this offense's potential I don't think they've hit that potential yet which can be seen as a good or bad thing. Its good that while we're one of the better offenses in the league we still have room to improve. Its bad that you're not sure if it ever will improve being we're in week 11.

I actually think our lack of big plays on defense could help us when it comes to teams like NO. By not living on the big turnover and being consistent, we might be able to slow down explosive offenses enough that they can make mistakes themselves.

It seems like New Orleans at least lives on the big play on offense, they aren't a real methodical grind it out team. If we prevent those, maybe they will struggle offensively. By not taking chances on picks and strips, we can be consistent and make them have long drives.

Also, we have dropped like 6 INTs the last few weeks.

I think we might get a few more than we have but I don't see anything different enough to change it much. We don't try to strip the ball. We'll get some naturally and via sacks on occasion. But things are going to change a lot.

...more than holds up their end of the bargain.

I'm much more worried about the offence and their ability to move the ball consistently against good defences.
