How can you claim to be a dynasty when you are beating watered down teams by a FG.

Especially when you have to cheat to do that.

Exactly. Just knowing what defense the opponent is going to do on just a couple of plays will get you in position to get that FG you need to win the game.

C'mon Leon you saw the games....in 2001 brady got them into field goal range in about 60 seconds following the Rams score with Madden yelling he should take a knee.....The Panthers kicked their kickoff out of bounds leaving Brady a short field...My friends in Philly tell me that if TO hadn't gotten hurt there is no way they lose that game....None of those wins demonstrate a NE advantage from cheating...I believe that players (and sometimes a little luck ) wins football games....

You don't know that for certain. Which is the reason why there will always that lingering doubt about legitimacy of Pats wins, including SB wins.

I believe that players (and sometimes a little luck ) wins football games....
Sure, that is the idea but it doesn't hurt when your coach video tapes opponents sigal for play calling.

What kind of taxes are involved with catching a baseball at a game ?

He was going to be taxed on "potential" income I believe. I'm not a tax expert, but it's the same principle as winning a new car or something. You're taxed on what it's potentially worth.

Stupid tax system we have isn't it?

So theoretically, I could be taxed on an old stamp that I have based on its potential worth ?

I understand paying taxes on winnings, but taxes on baseballs ? Who is to say his intentions were to sell it ?

I know a few people that have baseballs. Not a lot but a few.

Sounds pretty weak to me, and thanks for the response. I think I am going to call some friends to ask further about this.

First of all, I didn't say anything "demonstrated" they were cheating. I said in my 1st post that winning all your SBs by merely a FG is not the mark of a "dynasty". In the second post I merely implied that it wouldn't take much cheating to win by a FG. If they cheated, it would only take a small advantage to get you in position for the FG you need.

Further, the advantage might have been gained on a previous series where they scored, thus putting getting them close enough to win it on a legitimate FG at the end. I'm not saying they did cheat, that can't be proven one way or another. I am saying to those who say they wouldn't have gained "much" advantage by cheating, that it wouldn't take "much" of an advantage to win the way they did.

Owens being hurt is not what prevented Philthy from winning. It was McFlabb puking his guts out and not being able to stand up to the pressure of a big game that beat them. I was actually rooting for Philthy in that game. lol.

Honestly, I really don't know. I remember hearing something like this on the news.

He was going to be taxed heavily based on the potential worth of the ball.

Again, I'm not sure how it works exactly.....I'm not sure if it's true....but that's what I heard.

Well, I cannot dispute any of that...it's just I used to absoutely love baseball...played catcher primarily and first base sometimes, but when they cancelled the World Series...I was done with that sport!

Yeah, there is that saying, "if your are not trying to cheat, you are not trying to win"...However! When you are caught cheating and are told by the league TO NOT CHEAT and then do it again the next game? What does that tell you?

Screw baseball...

And we know you are a Patriots* fan, but come on, my friend, even you should be smarter than that...

;)

I like how every time you typed the "Patriots" you put the * behind it :lmao2:

I heard something about that Bonds thing with the baseball, if its true its pure genius. A guy bought the record setting ball and branded an asteric on it, then gave it to the HOF...Is this true ?

Yes its true... but it doesnt mean that it goes into the Hall like that.... they talked about removing the asterisk from the actual ball.

That's my biggest question about it.

Who, and what determines worth, and based on what ?

My in-laws have some antique furniture pieces...personally I think they are junk/worthless (not that they aren't nice, but they are made for vertically challenged people, and I am 5' 10", certainly no giant), but apparently some people put a price tag on them and now they have worth ? Hell, they probably cost 10-20 bucks at the time they were made (if that).

My wife has china from her grandparents, others have some from their great-grandparents... It might have more than just personal value right ? So should people pay tax on those items...because of the "potential" worth ? Even though she has no intentions on ever selling it ?

I understand you are not an expert and just gave me what you know, but I don't consider myself an ignorant person in most cases (I am regarding this), but to determine potential value on an item and TAX the owner of the item based on that alone...call me crazy.

I wonder how much a Yugo is worth now. When was the last time you saw one ?

The key is WHEN was the rule adopted about VIDEO-TAPING the signals....if it was legal when JJ did it then it is fine....if it was illegal at the time, then that is a different story.

My understanding is that it was illegal during NE superbowl runs.

What do most coaches say? That 6-7 plays determine a ball-game in the NFL.

Go back and watch the NE/Philly game....they threw screen passes virtually every time that philly blitzed in the 2nd half. Yet they only won by 3 points....in each SB.

I'm a Dallas fan that lives back door to Foxboro, in fact work in Foxboro. I still believe Pats dynasty is BB and Pioli Great work.

This spygate is silly, are you ready to dismiss our Jimmy Johnson's SB's for doing the same? Please answer that.

Oh, I'll answer it. Jimmy Johnson clearly said that he STOPPED taping signals because it wasn't worth it to him. You are really naive to be pushing this point.

That's the difference between Jimmy Johnson and Bill Belicheat. JJ stopped cheating after trying it out and Belicheat kept on cheating and cheating, year after year, and even after receiving a memo from Goodell to stop doing it, even after being caught in the Packers game in 2006.

There definitely should be an asterisk on every Patriots championship title. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they were cheating during those years. Sports Illustrated interviewed several Eagles players after the story broke and each one said it was very suspicious that each time the defense called a blitz after the 1st quarter of their Superbowl loss (Eagles dominated 1st quarter), the Pats ran a screen pass to take advantage of it. Obviously, the Pats figured out the signal for blitz by cheating.

P.S. You probably believe O.J. Simpson is innocent too, huh?

The most common method for determining the value of those types of items, including sports memorabilia, is an independent appraisal.

There is no Asterick needed here. The Patriots are a good team and have earned their wins. I do not think they have done anything worse than every other team I just think they were the first to get caught so they came down on them hard to set an example.
Barry Bonds does not need an asterick either. He should be banned for life and stripped of all records. Why? Because he got lied about it and got caught. In my opinion he had the right to say none of your business but he chose to lie to congress and everyone else. Or he could have said anything he may have done was not illegal at that time. But he chose to say he was clean and it was not true.
