And get to the quarterback this year. I always see people blitz on us and get to Romo. With the changes to the front 4 will we be able to finally find success in the blitzing on defense

I'm more concerned with the pass rush. A blitz is something you spring on an offense in hopes of a missed blocking assignment where as pass rushing is a more consistent charge to get to the QB by our big boys.

The beauty of this offseason is you shouldn't have to blitz to get consistent pressure. The added bonus is if you do blitz, you can have Hardy (RDE)-Mincey(3T)-Crawford(1T)-Lawrence(LDE) as your DL and Gregory rushing from a LB spot. Whenever Marinelli decides to, he can bring 5 Legitimate pass rushers on any given play.

I agree, I would much rather get pressure without having to blitz

When you can rush 4 and still get a tremendous amount of pressure on the QB, you change the game on defense, and you change the scheme of the offense you are facing. You've seen this a lot with the Cowboys over the years, especially in December or in the playoffs. Minnesota took us out of the playoffs rushing four.

This is how this team is going to compete with Green Bay going forward.

The only way to beat the top QB's in the game (Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Peyton, etc) is to bring pressure with 4 guys with 7 guys defending.

If you can't bring pressure with 4 guys, they will kill you. As Rodgers did against us in the playoffs. But these guys have seen every blitz in the book and know exactly how to beat it.

You can blitz young, experienced QB's. But when you in the playoffs, you are generally up against the top dogs. And you MUST make them uncomfortable rushing 4 guys. And I think we now have the horses to do that, injuries and suspensions notwithstanding.

That's why I don't think we should stop here. Getting AP would put us other the top. La'el Collins wouldn't hurt either. Ironically, I think getting Peterson might help us recruit him.

There is no way to game plan against a DL that consistently gets pressure with 4 rushers. For every extra blocker they leave in to counter it, the numbers get more lopsided for the defense. For example if they are having to keep a TE in to block, its 7 covering 4. If they have to keep a TE and RB in to block, its 7 covering 3. I don't think there's any single greater advantage than a dominant 4 man DL and thats what this DL has the potential, I repeat potential to be.

The title should be we should be able to put pressure without having to blitz.

If we can reach the QB with only a four man rush the defense can become a strength of this team as well.

All we need now is someone capable of running the ball. Thus I'm okay with trading for AD. Romo has but a good 3 years left and the time to make a run is right now.

Should read: We will be able to finally get pressure with the front four and not have to blitz to apply pressure.

Marinelli can selectively blitz from time to time to really surprise offenses, but most often he will rush four and drop 7.
