The title should be we should be able to put pressure without having to blitz.

If we can reach the QB with only a four man rush the defense can become a strength of this team as well.

All we need now is someone capable of running the ball. Thus I'm okay with trading for AD. Romo has but a good 3 years left and the time to make a run is right now.

Yes, in theory.

The DL upgrades should require more attention from opposing offenses in order to block the base four man rush.

If the opposition is more concerned with containing the DL, it should make blitzes more effective on the occasions they are called.

The defense is based on getting pressure with the DL and not needing to blitz in order to get pressure.

I'm just pointing out that blitzes will hopefully be more successful this season when they do get called thanks to improving the talent on the front line (and better coverage in the secondary, too).

LOL Minny making the playoffs is a joke. I know that getting AP here is a long shot. But Minny thinking that they have a legit shot at the playoffs is just crazy.

They should think about rebuilding. Paying 30 million to a runningback who is 30 years old is not where you want to build your team around. Trading him to Dallas for draft picks is a smart move since he doesn't want to be there. The longer they wait the less AP is gonna be worth to trade. The smart thing is to trade him now.

The beauty of this offseason is you shouldn't have to blitz to get consistent pressure. The added bonus is if you do blitz, you can have Hardy (RDE)-Mincey(3T)-Crawford(1T)-Lawrence(LDE) as your DL and Gregory rushing from a LB spot. Whenever Marinelli decides to, he can bring 5 Legitimate pass rushers on any given play.

Gregory is NASTY blitzing from a standup position. Gregory with a full head of steam = nightmare.

I still think as a defense we will struggle on first and second downs against elite QBs, unless we see Terrell McClain become a lot more consistent.

Marinelli can selectively blitz from time to time to really surprise offenses, but most often he will rush four and drop 7.

I just wonder what having both Jones and Lee in pass coverage this season will mean!

On passing downs, I'm sending Hardy, Lawrence, Gregory and Crawford and letting 7 guys drop into coverage. With that talent, the pass rush will still get there and we will have 7 guys covering 5 possible pass catchers. Best of both worlds.

The ability to put pressure on a QB with just your front 4 is special and I think we can do just that now. This will really help out the back end as I'm sure our CB's would willingly admit.

Gregory and Hardy give the Cowboys the element of unpredictability they didn't have before. Marinelli can get creative, which is how he generated so many turnovers in Tampa and Chicago.

We yearned for the blitz and finally got our wish when BP brought in the 34. Then we hated it, because Wade's D and Robs would leave wide open guys in the middle of the field when we did blitz! I prefer the 4 man rush with an occasional 5th rusher now, we have just not had the players latley to get it done. Go back and watch the Seattle game last year. Solid defense with no mistakes on the back end. Russell looked like a baseball player out there! He couldnt do anything.

Leaf well enough alone. We have some good secondary prospects but the learning curb come before we are well-known blitzers.
