I sure would like to use the 1st round pick on offense. If a top OL should fall to us at 18 or if a miracle happens and Cutler should fall to us or a WR like Jackson those would be a real good choice.

I am not sure why but I just have this real weird feeling that that we will be using a 1st rounder on a RB. Dunno why...but I just do.

I sure hope not. The strength of this draft is defense and we have very real needs on D.

No, you go after the player that helps the team the most.

I don't know of any offensive player that will be available at #18 that could start right away for the Cowboys.

Lawson/Carpenter/Wimberly can start right away. Cutler cannot.

And there is NO WAY the Cowboys spend a first round pick on a wide receiver.

The pick will be linebacker at #18 or the Cowboys will trade down.

Offensive line.

Its funny, there seems to be a line drawn in the sand on this board, either LB or O-line.
I'm all about the O-line myself.

Its funny, except for the fans of the cowboys, I haven't seen any mock drafts where we take a LB with our first pick. I'm not saying they're not out there somewhere, but I haven't seen them.

Never underestimate the power of a great O-line.

Manster if Chad Jackson falls to us I could see us using #18 on that. If Cutler should be there I think we could take him to.

Dude, you gotta give up this Cutler stuff. He isn't falling to 18. For real. You know better.

And we are not going RB at 18. Nothing wrong with what we have and you don't use the 18th pick to draft for depth.

Has there been a poll recently about "what position should dallas pick at 18"?

If not, someone should start one.

We don't need a poll, everyone already knows the answer. In any order OL, OLB and FS with our 3 day one picks.

And I truly hope that we don't waste our first rounder on Jackson. Obviously the first round won't look like the current mocks. Combine numbers are still overly influencing mocks.

If Winston Justice is there at 18 he could easily start and would probably be a huge upgrade to our OL and in tun, make our offense as a whole better...other than Adams he'd easily be the most talented OL on the team, and considering Adams injury and age, might be the best

that said, I doubt Justice will be there at 18

Of course those are the three main options. I have a feeling a lot of people would add WR too. I just want to get an idea of what positions the fans here place the most emphasis on within those 3-4 options.

The Cowboys don't draft offensive lineman in the 1st.

I guess we'll see this yr, because I could see either Justice or Winston ending up here as first rd picks...not saying it WILL happen, but after 3yrs of basically poor to mediocre OL play at best, something has to change eventually...without a great OL coach its hard to develop middle to late rd picks as starters, so that leaves signing free agents or drafting premium talent as the way to build an OL...if this teams OL play isnt improved over last yr, we wont be a playoff team, period.

I'm all for using a 1st on our mediocre offensive line. It is still a weak spot on this team and without solid play from all five guys we won't be doing anything this season.

Chances are slim that we draft one in the 1st, though.

I agree that the top 3 needs are:

Outside Linebacker
Offensive Line
Safety

I think value will dictate the order in which those needs are filled.

If Justice fell to #18, that might dictate the Cowboys addressing Offensive Line first, otherwise I think it will be Outside Linebacker. (I don't think Eric Winston is worth a first rounder personally)

I would like the BOYS go D.... that seems like the only thing they can draft with some success!

Drafting Oline has been a joke since BILL has been here!!! I just want him to stick with D and let the other chips fall where they may!!!

this team has spent more than enough picks on the OLINE... either we cant draft them or we cant develop them so let them go with FREE AGENT OLINE like they have been doing!!!

I wouldnt mine if the spent the entire first day on D!!!!

OLB
DT
FS
CB

not in that order!

At the end of the day I think we will end up making a pick at 18. If you look at it, the teams below us probably have either no compelling reason to move up or they consider us rivals and won't want to help us. The only exception to that might be Indy, because they need a RB and if Deangelo Williams is there at 18 they might want to jump up to get him. That would be a gutsy move down for us but it could net a late 2nd which is where the top 3 guards will likely go. If we went down there we might take Eric Winston if he was there but probably only if all three LB's (Lawson, Wimbley, Carpenter) are selected.

So the only way we take OL is if perhaps Lawson is gone and we have a higher grade for Marcus McNeil than Wimbley or Carpenter. It's possible but personally I doubt it. My guess is Lawson will be there at 18 and he will be a Cowboy. If so we may opt to trade down with the 2nd round pick and select a guard from the trio of Joseph, Spencer or Gilles. If we wanted to go tackle there we could look at Colledge or possibly Scott. Some pretty good choices. But it would mean putting off FS and WR which I think is a good call.
