Will Zeke face a similar fate as Murray?

I guess I never really knew or understood the reason for letting Murray go. I know it was $$$ relates, asking Tony to take a paycut bla bla bal, but in the end, we had a GOOD running back, and well they let him go.

I am wondering if when the time comes to pay Zeke he will face a similar fate.
Why let Murray go, and then spend THAT draft pick on something else?

Was their play to release Murray all along?
Unless Zeke has a mayor regression next season, I do hope he is not released

I KNOW Zeke is way better, but BACK THEN we had no idea Zeke was going to be here, thus my reasoning. It is not as they had a crystall ball and saw the future on what the drat will offer them

They get Zeke for the amount that Murray balked at for 4 years ...... its not hard to understand if they feel he is breaking down in that time they will not resign him ...... if they feel he is even better they will resign him.

NFL running backs are often thrown on the trash heap after their rookie contract is up. They end up like Morris, getting two carries a game backing up a younger better back, unless they are an AP talent. Zeke might even be better than AP.

Let's not get carried away with AP comparison yet. Zeke doesn't break as many homeruns as AP.

If you want to understand why any NFL team does anything, it'd be best to start studying the salary cap.

If you don't understand it, you'll never understand any moves made by any NFL team, unfortunately.

young legs.......remember when you could do things at 18-24 that you couldn't do at 30

Zeke will be fine

Well, this is kinda why a lot of people didn't want to spend such a high pick on Zeke. IMO, the Cowboys are going to have to make some choices. Do you keep Zeke, do you pay Dak, do you pay the OL, where do you spend your money? To me, you gotta pay Dak, you pay the OL because clearly, any good back can be effective behind that line. I think there is a very real possibility that in 4 or 6 years or what have you, the Cowboys allow Zeke to walk or trade him.

He may. If they don't redo the contract before year 5, he may be used up anyway.

Not unless you count the ones that keep getting called back. Even if you want to give Peterson slight edge as a runner give me Zeke over AD right now. Younger, better receiver and blocks like a maniac.

And Zeke is just the better fit for this team. Chemistry is important too.

You can put the transition tag or franchise tag on him. So he won't be going anywhere for 5-6 years

Are you kidding me? Zeke is a marketing Godsend. The cash is raining from the sky. As long as he's putting butts in the seats and selling a ton of jersey's, they'll figure out a way to keep him. Now. If we see a big drop off at 26/27. Then all bets are off. But hopefully not.

Hell. By the time we need to sign Zeke can get rid of Dez. And draft a WR. That should free up a lot of the cash we need.

The reason we let Murray go is that it's dumb to pay RBs big money.

And then we went and spent a 4th and big money on Zeke.

I think the injury history (and proneness thereof) were the main factors in not resigning Murray. If Zeke is as Emmitt durable as it appears he may be, he will get his payday and stay here without question in my view. He's a generational back by all indications and those remain with their original teams. But if you're an injury risk, then that changes the outlook. Won't get a 3rd contract tho.

Keep ing Murray had nothing to do with Romo's contract at all. It had to do with him being an average RB and an injury risk until his contract year. It also had plenty to do with the very large contract he received and his tendency to fumble. He fumbled a lot that last year.
