Would you guys be willing to trade Carpenter for a chance to upgrade this team at the Oline position? I'm sure some team would give Dallas a first round pick and Dallas has too much depth for him to start right now.

Scenario

1. Trade him straight up for Philly for Max Jean Guilles and Winston Justice. Both guys may not be able to contribute this year, but they could be starting at RT and RG next year.Phiily needs a Olber in the worst way, and while I don't like helping a division rival, they have what we need on the Oline.

2. Trade him to the Cardinasl for Deuce Lutui and and a 3rd round pick or Gabe Watson. Dallas needs a NT too.

3. To the Packers for Colledge and a 3rd rounder.

This may just be fantasy but are there any teams that could part with some good young Olineman and need help at linebacker?

I really do not think Watson is worth as much as Carpenter, he hasn't proven he cares enough about the game, although I do like his talent. I wouldnt mind if we could get lutui and watson. gilles and justice would be ok with me too, but honestly I just think we keep Carpenter, i don't see any scenario where a trade happens.

... to speculate like this.

BUT... if a good young lineman is available I would take him anyday over a 3-4 linebacker. Lineman are so hard to find.

Thats what I meant. Lutui and Watson or Lutui and a 3rd round pick (if BP wanted nothing to do with Watson).

I think Philly would be willing to trade Justice and Guilles for Carpenter. They really need a linebacker in the worst kind of way. Carpenter would be perfect for them and Justice and Guilles would be perfect for us. I think this is the most likely trade if one were to happen.

Talk about rush to judgement.

1. MJG is exactly what Parcells doesn't want in a guard.
2. Same for Lutui.
3. Colledge has been basically miserable up in GB.

Linemen talk time to develop. Throwing money at free agents and high round draft picks rarely helps until they have time to acclimate to the system.

I really doubt any OL added mid season would improve the team much.

I didn't like the Carpenter pick from Day 1, but some of you are getting ridiculous with this overreaction to his being inactive.

Your missing the point. Carpenter will not help this team this year. Why not get your lineman now and have them take over next year. Colombo and Rivera looked horrible. Parcells may not be the coach next year. If he has a mediocre season, he is done. Jerry Jones will not fire him because then he will never get a good coach, but BP will quit if this season is another 9-7 fiasco. Maybe I am the only one salivating thinking of Guilles and Justice starting starting next year. Carpenter for them seems like an even trade, the next coach might impliment a 4-3 so Carpenter may not be as needed.

It has nothing to do with Carpenter. I think he will be a fine starter. I just don't think linebacker is a weakness, I see O lineman as the crutch to keeping this franchise mediocre. I think Carpenter will be a terror is 3 years, but Oline needs help now. The linebacker core has alot of good depth, the Oline has none.

If you're going to trade someone, trade the older whiney dork Ellis and let the kid play the position we drafted him for.

I agree, but I think Ellis is gone after the year, but not this year. I think these trades are more like a madden world type thing, but hopefully next year we draft offense offense offense and a good beast of an NT.

didnt like the pick form day 1...

the team could have used a player in the first round to make an immediate impact or at least helped on the field.

I wonder how manny 1st rounders were inactive in Week 1 not due to injury???

no they arnt...you can take average guys all the time and make them into a dependable, productive unit if you have good coaches working with them...we did it with Tony Wise and Hudson Houck here...New England has had a good line without highly drafted players for years...San Diego has a good OL and has for the past couple of seasons

I didn't know the cap hit was that huge for a rookie. Oh well.. I agree with your assessment about going Offense, but I would like to see the draft go offensive lineman heavy.

1st round - Best tackle available
2nd round - best guard available
3rd round - best tackle avialable again
4th round - best NT available

It would make more sense to trade next year's number one for a quality offensive lineman, the trouble is, no one would trade an established force at Offensive line for a number one pick, they would end up starting all over again developing youth and taking a gamble to spend 2 years minimum establishing quality at that position. It's too much of a setback.

What we'd need to do is get a brilliant coaching mind like Hudson Houck back. There's no salary cap on coaches. Get the Steve Hoffman of offensive line coaches and give him a lifetime contract.
