Is no different than winning in the regular season, a game is a game. Having said that there are a few things that REALLY determine the outcome of games.

Turnovers,.... you just cant have them. With every turnover you commit your chances of winning the game go down exponentially. Penalties,.... absolute drive killers for your team and in many cases drive extenders for your opponent. Cant have them either.

Controlling the clock. This is HUGE. As an added bonus to controlling the clock you usually do that by effectively running the ball. Where the bonus comes in is less turnovers as the turnover rate on a run is far less then a passing play. By running the ball effectively you also open up bigger passing windows when you do throw the rock which again in turn generally leads to fewer if any turnovers.

Something I learned from Reading Bill Parcells many year that I have found to be absolutely true. Every 100 yards gained SHOULD lead to 7 points. You have 200 yards at the half,... you SHOULD have 14 points. Having said that you can OVERperform your yardage and also UNDERperform your yardage.

You under perform your yardage by committing turnovers, penalties, or just generally bogging down in (*) the red zone . Something we have been prone to do this season. You generally over perform by taking the ball away from your opponent and by them committing penalties.

One thing you cant do is get behind your yardage. If you have gained 300 yards total you damned well better have 21 points or pretty close to on the score board. Once you get behind your yardage it can be VERY hard to overcome and come back from.

In closing...LOL. Pretty simple. You wanna win,... dont commit any turnovers and limit the self inflicted unforced errors that are drive killing penalties. Run the ball with authority, if its not there dont give up, keep pounding till it is there. If nothing else this will cause passing windows to open up making it much easier to throw and help limit the potential of an interception.

Oh......... and TAKE THE BALL AWAY! We need at least 1 extra possession in this game, we need to steal an extra possession by taking the ball away either by pick or fumble recovery. More would be far better but 1 will help. A lot of people are always looking for the keys to victory, truth is its always been the same thing and its right here.

Edit....... For the record most if not all of these things come down to one thing. Controlling the LOS. This is the very essense of football. Always has been, always will be.

I posted in another thread, about the key is to win the trenches.
Who ever protects their QB better, and gets the rushing yards.

Makes sense about the 100 yards theory. Goes along with his lost yardage deal too.

The Cowboys recipe is the same every week, regardless of regular season or opponent.

Don't turn the ball over, play good defense.

I've never believed that for all players. Performing on the biggest stage with history on the line can't be handled by all players.

With that said IMO our biggest concern should be the defense getting of the field on 3rd downs. If we can do this consistently I think we will easily. The problem is we are among the worst in the NFL at getting off the field on 3rd downs.

Playoffs are nothing like the regular season. Playoffs are completely different.

Don't turn the ball over, play good defense.

You are one of the few people that actually understands this..

However, you don't take that into account into how it affects the qb..

This brand also is a big reason why the defense is as successful as it is

I think the intensity level is much higher and how players respond to that pressure means a lot.

We need to see the defense that contained the saints offense for 4 quarters. And we need the offense that saw Jarwin score 3 td's along with a productive Zeke. Wouldn't hurt to have Jackson as the return man again and actually get a few yards of production there as well.

The main difference between the regular season and the playoffs is this:

Any loss and a team is eliminated. There’s no “well, it’s only one game; we’ll be better next week” rationale. It’s win or go home — no excuses.

The postseason truly demands a one-game-at-a-time mentality and focus. Can’t afford turnovers, undisciplined penalties, missed opportunities and/or poor game-planning/play-calling.

We’re a little beat up but playing well. I like our chances vs Seattle.
