Jimmy Johnson famously said that you make your own luck through preparation and details. Parcells had a similar quote, something to the effect that if you prepare and pay attention to the details, it is not luck.

I've also heard that there is no such thing as luck, you can't acquire, see it, hold it or even define it.

Ballacks. Eli and the Gints got lucky in both of their SB wins. There is no preparation that can help you make the other team muff punts or drop INTs. Dumb luck is part of the game, just the way it is.
