With 2024 a lost season, what lies ahead?
Story by Richard Paolinelli, 11/16/2024

After last Sunday’s blowout loss to the Eagles, barring a miraculous turnaround, the 2024 season is a lost cause for the Dallas Cowboys.

Monday night’s game against the Texans is shaping up to be Dallas’ fifth home loss. At 3-7, the Cowboys would seemingly be all but officially eliminated from the playoffs.

Prior to today’s games, the Cowboys have just a 4% chance to make the playoffs among the 16 NFC teams. Only the Saints, Panthers, and Giants have worse odds.

Right now, Dallas can only play spoiler for the NFC East title and playoff seedings over their final eight games.

Once the season mercifully comes to an end after Jan. 5th it will be time for the Cowboys to look ahead to 2025.

Here’s where they should be looking:
  • The Front Office
  • The Quarterback
  • Running Back
  • Wide Receiver
  • Tight End
  • Offensive Line
  • Defensive Line
  • Linebackers
  • Defensive Backs
  • Kickers
  • Will This Happen?

We know the front office is not changing. Otherwise they should be looking to upgrade every position however they can. Sitting on what they have is why this team goes so far then falls back. Jimmy Johnson showed the way. Always be on the lookout for players better than the one you have now.

From the article:

The Front Office

Jerry Jones is not going to sell this team.
There’s no point trying to hammer that point. We all know the only way that ownership is changing hands in Dallas.
But, until that day arrives, Stephen Jones needs to hold an intervention on his father.

_______________

1. No. 'We all know' is not correct, no matter how obvious the actual situation has always been. There are (and will continue being) those, who believe Jones will sell under some imaginary scenario, outside of a variable so serious that it will force the other owners to coerce him into surrendering the franchise.

2. Stephen Jones doing an intervention is about as ludicrous as his father selling the franchise. How did this writer assess DNA Kid #1? It was not from three decades of watching what he does and does not do concerning his father's running of the franchise.

Just wait until next year, when the “big offseason moves” are resigning Bland and Parsons. Then hitting the bargain bin again for 1 year deals.

Only hope is hiring a new HC that can change this culture and hold people accountable. But when the owner takes directly to both the media and his own players, I don’t have a lot of confidence of anything meaningful changing.

Now they are at 29 years and counting of futility. Yet somehow there are fans out there who believe it is bad luck or unforseen circumstances that caused this. The reality is that no matter what changes are made below the front office (coaches, players etc) nothing changes because there is no accountability in at the top. Failure IS an option in Dallas whereas in all other NFL cities and major colleges it gets you fired. The attitude is we lost or got emarassed but hey, that big direct drposit is still coming. Until that attitude changes nothing does. This franchise is only good for brand building now.

Once again Stephen is presented as this voice of reason that needs to talk some sense into his father. Yet Stephen is just as unqualified and just as damaging to the team in the position he holds as his father is.

He's not the reasonable one in the room. He's just his father's son.

You lost me with "kickers". We have one of the best in the league in Aubrey. Not sure where we need to look for kickers.

OK first of all, I didn't write this article.

Secondly, did you read what it said about our kickers?

"If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Just make sure they have all the kicking balls they need and a nice practice surface to work with. Then leave them alone!"

Itd Best not to sign bland a year early especially since he still hasn't played since his injury lol for that reason they might

Not even Jerry is stupid enough to blow up a 12-5 team. It's easy to say now, hindsight is always 20/20
I agree they didn't need to blow it up. Wish they would be more aggressive in adding talent as primes never last as long as we all want them to.

Nothing will change. Jerry and Son will have some new and stupid term to try to suck the fans in to believing all will be fine.

Something like ... ALL IN - AGAIN or ... ALL IN - STILL.
Or ... BELIEVE ....

Sorry...I wasn't directing that at you. And I apologize, I didn't click on the link. Please accept my apology.
