Have not seen this addressed, sorry if i missed it among the 300mb's of posts..

OK.....say Ellis was totally healthy for the N.O. game..........gotta simply say
Payton/Brees would have had an automatic audible for what ever side he was on for the pass into the flats on his side..........result no different, unless we bring up a safety.

Even if he wasnt coming on the pass rush....there is no way he was gonna cover any of those passes into the flats..........just not mobile enought, can swivel, cant break down...........

We simply need for one of the MLB's to be a flat out burner, and play the game of flipping them side to side along with Ware and Ellis etc and start to be able to dictate to the opposing offense, or at minimum play mind games.

I don't agree with this. First of all, if you have Ellis in the game, you don't have to commite more LBs to the blitz. You can generate pressure off both edges if you need to. In addition, you force the back to make the right read on the hot. If you have pass rush threats on either edge, you don't know which one is coming on any given play. As a result, you force the RB to read blitz and either choose the right side and or pick up the rush. Add to that, the fact that it's one more layer of complexity that the QB and the hot reciever have to be in sink with. With more LBs available to defened, you probably don't give up the big play off the flare to Bush. He probably gets tackled before he clears the LBs. Lastly, Ellis has always been exceptional against the rush or Flair pass. He reads screens very well and often disrupts them. I'm not saying he would have stopped them all but I feel as if he could have had positive impact in that phase of the game. I guess I just don't buy the whole, Ellis could not have gotten out into the pattern thing. I think he could have helped us tremedously against NO.
