With our DC being a good communicator, should solve confusion on defense?

I just don't get how so many on this site are underrating the effect talent has on a team. Mind boggling.

We had problems on D, no even slightly sane person would argue that. 95% of the problem was lack of talent.

Did you know that the last time Eber was a DC(INDY) he had a top 10 D 3 out of 4 years? So, he got here and forgot how to coach? Yeah, that's it.

Good communicators, Scheme, and teachers. I think the players will relate to these younger coaches being brought in.

We have a good core group of players and if they can add some average to above average starters the defense could be very good.

Williams DT
Clark DT
Odighizuwa DT
Ezeiruaku OLB
Overshown OLB
Bland CB
Revel CB

MLB FA, Styles, Logan Wilson looked like he had lost a step but he's a smart player

MLB FA, Liufau, James

Safety Hooker could be better under the new system the entire secondary was bad last year hence the Parker hire.

Safety FA, Downs, McNeil-Warren, Thieneman

NCB FA, Terrell, Delane, Hood, McCoy
Bland worries me. If we hang on to him I'm leaving him on pup for 6 weeks. No way should we be counting on him. We need a complete overhaul on the back 7. Revel should not be starting. In fact, he might be better at safety than corner to begin with. Ease him in.

Bingo. We are woeful from a talent point of view. We need a complete overhaul.

I do think Flus was burnt out and should have taken a year off after the Bears debacle. He looked like a frazzled guy from the jump. Looked tired. That said, you need talent. We had little.

No idea.

Eber is most likely one of those dudes who is a coordinator, not a HC. There are dozens of them around the league, Wade Phillips, Josh McDaniels to name a couple. It's just so weird to think that a guy who is a good coordinator will make a good HC. It's like a polar opposite job.

Funny how he was known for it previously, but suddenly here he wasn't.
Maybe if the front office had done its due diligence before handing him the job, they would have interviewed him properly and taken a hard look at his time in Chicago. There were plenty of red flags. It was obvious Eberwuss was a bad coach based on how he treated his players and his consistent failure to make in‑game adjustments.

He wasn't the DC in CHI. No one has said he was a good HC.

With Parker being a great communicator, how beneficial is this going to be to our defense who often looked confused out on the field? When you're out there guessing what to do, and not knowing your assignments, you play slower. I'm expecting to see our guys be more well prepared week to week when we play our games.

I'm not expecting them to go from the worst to best, but I know a lot of us feel that some improvement is better than no improvement! If he can get us to be respectable, create plays, know our assignments, and be consistent, the sky is the limit for this defense!

Please give your thoughts

Its like Nate Newton said some weeks ago: players know what they are supposed to do if they went thru the plays often enough during training. It has nothing to do with communication.

He also said that our players often were missing time in training or there werent enough repetitions during training units for the players.

This is a cultural thing. Force the players to be there and do the stuff that is needed to learn their role on a play. Then they will know what they have to to during game time and you wont hear any more of this "lack of communication" blah blah.

Hard to do that with all the rules they have with the players association
