With Ratliff signed, do we resign Tank and trade Ferg to Parcells?

Lot of depth on our d-line now and if Tank comes back there is no need for 3 NTs. Think BP would bring Ferguson in?

No. We probably keep Fergy and Tank for NT and then move Ratliff back to DE where he started.

If anyone goes it will probably be Bowen, although I think he can play pretty good.

If anyone is traded, maybe it would be Spears. I don't know.

That would give us:

Canty / Bowen at RDE

Tank / Fergy at NT

Ratliff / Hatcher at LDE

Not bad.

EDIT: Ratliff will be a dominant 3-4 DE. He's very good at NT, but he'll be even better at DE, IMO.

Tank signed a 2 year deal, so he's probably back unless he gets in trouble again. He's played very well the past two games. Fergy is a bit more difficult. Depends on his cap number and if they think he's worth that cap hit, along with how well he comes back from the injury.

Personally, I'd love to have a healthy Fergy back. Alternate him and Tank at NT, put Ratliff at starting DE with Canty. Then you'd have some nice backups in Spears (who has played well the past two weeks as well), Hatcher, and Bowen.

Sounds good to me.

Bowen would be tough to cut because he can rush the passer, now knows the scheme, and is dirt cheap.

It's odd that he's so good rushing the passer, but struggles against the run given his size. So I would imagine that Wade sees a guy with a lot of potential who could be an all around 3-4 DE/NT.

I agree with you on Bowen, but I can't see us keeping 7 guys on the DL. Perhaps they would get rid of Fergy, but I think they want to see Fergy and Tank at NT and Ratliff at DE... mainly because of Ratliff, IMO. I think Phillips really thinks Rat can be a gamebreaker at DE and wants him there.

That means that Fergy stays, and we have 5 DE's for 2 spots. Someone will likely go.

IMO, if Parcells wants Spears as a starting piece for his 3-4 in Miami, then we trade him there. Either flat out or as part of a trade up in April.

Spears cost/performance ratio is out of line for everyone else on the DL (except maybe Fergy) so it would be to our benefit to keep Bowen and trade Spears.

However, having said all of that... if Phillips thinks Spears is doing very well, he might just ship out Bowen and keep the rest.

I've been thinking we'd package some combo of first round picks, Bobby Carpenter, and/or Ferg for the #1 pick.

I agree with both these posts, but I'll defend Spears here. He has been very strong against the run and has knocked down a couple of passes this year. I think we would miss him, especially if we kept Bowen instead.

However, I certainly would start Ratliff at DE ahead of Spears if that is the side we put him on. So if we could get a really good deal for Spears in a trade, so be it.

BP will draft Glenn Dorsey out of LSU and would have no need to trade for Fergy.

I think he'll be a star in it. They could always grab Chris Long of Virginia though who I think is perfect for the 3-4.

That's actually who I see the Dolphins targeting. Trade down a couple spots and take Long. He's the son of a former player and played for a coach under Bill, that's got Parcell's MO written all over it.

Ferguson is getting long in the tooth. We haven proven we can stop the run without him. He is not known for getting into the backfield that often. Good dependable solid player but the Tank is looking mighty awesome.

Stephen Bowen is glued in his place. He'll be an exclusive rights free agent, which means he'll be CHEAP (like $500k cheap or whatever the tender may be) for one more season. Tank Johnson isn't going anywhere with his minimum salary for next season either.

The only ones really at risk of being moved are Canty and Ferguson. Canty for being a RFA and Ferguson for injury.

IMO, any big changes on the DL happen next offseason (e.g. cutting Ferguson, Canty may be an UFA, Bowen an UFA, Johnson an UFA), not this one.

no, we make our D even better by plugging Ferg back at his NT spot, and moving Ratliff to Spears' spot at DE
