With Romo, Dez, Suh and Murray are we favorites?

I think so. I think it is worth taking the chance. With those 4 I think we are as good as anyone for the next 2-3 years. I don't care about 4-5 years down the road, that will take care of itself. I have waited to long to be good to blow it by playing it safe. Scared money never wins.

Suh could have a cap hit of 7m next year on a 6/96m deal with a 30m signing bonus
Murray could have a cap hit of 3m on a 4/28m deal with 10m signing bonus
Dez could have a cap hit of 5m cap hit on a 7/91m deal with a 20m signing bonus

That equals 15m, which is only 2m more than Dez' franchise tag

Draft a DE at 27, a CB at 60 and a RT at 92.. Championship

Yeah, we'd be in good shape, but that's a ton of $$. I'd rather see Hardy here over Suh. I think he'll cost less, and his presence would do a lot to help Crawford and Lawrence step up their games. I do hope Murray comes back, but I am doubtful. I don't think Dallas will pay more than another team will. I still think Murray's contract should be around 4 yrs 22-24m, but he'll probably get more.

I think the signing bonuses are on the low side but even if you upped the signing bonuses a bit, it is still doable. Too bad these 3 do not share the same agent.

I was really just spit-ballin some numbers. The guarantees would probably be double for each. My main point was that we would be right there as Super Bowl contenders.

I would rather go out fighting than trying to get cute and get lucky with some bargains. Nothing is guaranteed but trying to win with our guys(+Suh) would make it that much more fun. If we miss on Suh, I think Hardy would also have a big impact and we could go LB or FS in the draft.

It scares me a bit thinking about going all-in on those players. Like what the Broncos have done the past couple years.

Playoff victories are nice, but when you put this much money into 4 players, you're hoping they all play at a high level and they help bring you a trophy. If it doesn't happen, you are without a trophy and you have to release players and fix your cap.

I just don't think it would be worth it. I feel like we are in a mode of signing one relatively known player with some decent depth signings and role players while drafting our future starters. Which I am completely fine with, this team is being built to have foundation once Romo leaves, while at the same time, having a chance for a Super Bowl victory now.

I don't know, they have gone 13-3, 13-3 and 12-4 since they went after Manning and went to the Super Bowl. They aren't in trouble with the cap and are still favorites in their division. I think that is a pretty good short term outcome.

Difference is that Denver brought in multiple players, most on the downside of their careers and playing on one side of the ball (for the most part). Multiple new players can take time to gell. Cowboys would be bringing in ONE new impact guy on D (should be minimal continuity and/or chemistry issues) and ZERO new impact guys on O. There would be no continuity problems bringing Dez and Murray back, the opposite in fact, the continuity and chemistry would be enhanced due to familiarity and another year working together.

Regardless, we're one of the favorites. Get ready for the cheese.

That's great, but they're shooting for a trophy.

I'm just not into giving out big contracts to multiple players to "win now". Romo is nearing the end of his career, Murray has health issues and was ran into the ground last year, and as talented as Suh is, his on the field issues seem they will always be a problem. We are still getting our cap under control after years of bad contracts to players that didn't live up to their potential.

Things are looking up because we are making better FA signings, letting go of ageing and overpaid players, and drafting smarter.

I don't think the slow and steady method is any more reliable, but all I am really betting on is a WR, a RB and a DT in their primes. Matched with a franchise QB, a young and talented OL and an oppurtunistic D it gives us the best chance to win.

If Suh was on our team already would you let him walk or would you try your darndest to keep him?

Empty trophy case those three years and now Manning's health may be an issue. They are the favorites in their division because of the lack of true competition. Not trying to beat you up just flipping the coin to the other side.

Is that really the standard for failure, not winning the SB? Considering 3 years ago they had Orton and Tebow, going 38-10 and making the Super Bowl seems pretty darn good.

So adding the best DT to a young playoff team is Madden, got it

Just joking around. Everybody knows we are a few upgrades away on D from having one of the most dominant teams in the league...
