With the media and the constant TO/Bill bashing, how do you feel?

I was wondering what the general sentiment is with Cowboys fans since many of the local reporters such as JFE and Randy Galloway (to just name a few) have been bringing up the TO issue constantly as if they expect trouble to be a day away. I've read a lot of comments from Zone users lately who seem to feel it has gone overboard which is in someways peculiar because many people were against it, even going so far as to swear they would never root for the Cowboys again if he wore the star. Then he was signed and slowly everyone seemed to become a fan of his and now it appears folks are against the media for bringing up the TO issue, even though the same thing happened for weeks on the Zone with warnings of how he would destory the team.

So what is it? Do you think they should wait until he really becomes the team cancer so many reporters are certain he will become, or do you think it's all fair game given his history of feuds? What do you think of the constant anti-TO stories in the media? I was also wondering if you are a fan of TO or one of his critics? Is the outcry against the media just a team thing where you accept him as a Cowboy and hate the media's tendency to sensationalize everything under a microscope, or are most of the people who don't like the constant criticism TO fans?

I live in Philly. The local media was NOT like this when the Eagles signed Owens. You'd have thought he walked on water the first 9 months or so that he was here. The bashing only came after he started acting up. The Dallas media is acting like a bunch of spoiled children and Owens has done absolutely nothing wrong since the Cowboys signed him. Granted it hasn't been very long but at least wait and see what happens first, instead of trying to create the news like they are now.

TO is getting exactly what i expected, i mean like you said "given his history" he has walked all over two franchises and people are looking at his flaws just like you do with anyone else, and his only flaw is his off the field issues, while with other recievers (I.E. Terry Glenn you might bash him for not being able to run routes underneath). so TO is getting bashed for his flaws just like any other receiver. Is he getting bashed to much? no, not at all, because he has exploited himself to the media, he is a flashy player with a lot of talent and nobody can have everybody like them so people find whatever they can about a person to bash them (i.e. Michael Vick with the Ron Mexico . . . Herpes etc.) so it has to do with his loud mouthed, cocky characteristics AND his past.

good point - and i'll defiantely defer to your direct experience. : ) my POV is i suppose after he started acting up and then giving more fuel to the fire. it's not realistic to think "the media" is going to give one of their top stories "the benefit of doubt" time and time again.

sounds like he got one when he got to philly and wizzed it away. now he has to earn it back near as i can tell.

I'm not a TO fan and I think that the media should be somewhat critical and questioning. However, I think it's been way over the top so far. I'm pretty sure the media wants him to blow up so they have something to write about. Right now he is a non story, and they should realize that. I'd much rather they concentrate on our draft picks and minicamp because that's what's actually important to the team right now.

I'll go on record to say that i dont like TO, i never have...ever. However, given his talent, i am excited to see what he will do for the boys. Doesnt mean i like cheering for the guy, but anybody in a blue star automatically gets a yell.

The media is just doing what the media always does...they are trying to be seen and heard. They love for things to go bad, bc it gives them something to do. It has gotten completely out of control, but then again so have the fans from the very day TO was signed, there were people who automatically became Jock carts and there were people who decided to pack up all the boys merchandise until TO was gone...

to those fans i just have to say this: you are the worst fans on earth, to leave bc the team does something you dont like is ridiculous...how many fans cried when we signed deion after knowing exactly who he was, a niner, and how many fans came racing back as soon as we were in the big game? If TO helps us win games i'll cheer for him, if TO contributes to us losing games and ground in our quest for another super bowl then i'll be on here talking about how much i hate him...but for now we really dont have any evidence to back either point, bc what has TO done for us yet? nothing...and he wont until the season starts.

The media is trying to create something from nothing and have been since day one. There are plenty of other stories they could be reporting on but instead they chose not to. Pathetic. Sad. Such a waste. Hopefully we will hear and read about those other stories when training camp finally gets here.

I'm not a TO fan but I do think a lot of his press attention is just lazy journalism. He brings a lot on himself but there is way to much written and filmed about him.

So regardless of their opinion of TO, fans are pretty much in agreement that the media should lay off of TO and see what happens? I wonder if some of these journalists who are harping on the issue have lost readers or listeners because of this. I know JFE was a lot more popular before this. When I called her out 2 months ago for being too much into the sensationalism quite a few people backed her up but it doesn't seem like she has many supporters these days after several more "I hate To and his family articles."

I don't think it is a matter of "laying off Owens" but just shutting the heck up about him. I for one am totally sick of hearing about the guy. It will be bad enough having to see that punk disgracing a Cowboys uniform during the season, I don't need to be reminded that we sold out and signed him every day by the media.

The media created Terrell Owens.

Nice one!

I do think the Cowboys' management helped bring this on themselves by not decisively presenting a united front from the get go. The absence of Parcells from the story early on lead to mild-to-wild speculation and associated blather. Would it really have hurt Parcells to have his one hour press conference then rather than now? He certainly is not shy about demanding what's needed from his players, he should have stepped up as well.

But, oh well, 'spoilt milk'.

I am tired of hearing nothing but baseless T.O. fabrications and rehashes from the media. Wait til there is something real. Are they that incapable of anything resembling real sports journalism?

I'm not a TO fan, and I'm glad the media is criticizing him because ...

1. He deserves criticism because his behavior isn't just a mistake, it's a pattern,
2. We gave him a new contract for essentially "wrecking" his team, at least in the lockerroom (basically awarding bad behavior),
3. TO needs to be constantly reminded of his misdeeds in the hopes that he never repeats them again, which will only benefit the Cowboys organization.

Option 5.

I'm a Cowboys fan and I'd like to hear and read something beyond how everyone feels about the acquisition of TO.

You wanted Parcells to speak on it. He did. Can we please move on? There will be 53 players trying to win games here, not 1.

I don't even like the guy and I think the media is going overboard. Despite his history, the fact is he has done NOTHING, good or bad, yet in Dallas. There is nothing to base this criticism on yet.

That's the difference between football today and football of ten years ago. The game is about what the media thinks, not what the players do on the field.

And they don't mind telling us about every chance they get either. I wonder if they know how much they are really hated. That is why I like reading Dale's stuff so much. He is just the opposite of mainstream media.
