The RW trade looks better. As I recall we get back a 5th and 6th, right? Or is it a 4th and 6th? Add that to the 6th we get in the trade, and we are not too bad later in the draft (which is where we actually do pretty good).

By the way: Look how many gomers were screaming for Jerrah to use a first on a WR. Well he did. Only this one is proven.

I think it's just a 5th. Not 100% on that though.

So basically we can say with all that we are down a 1st and a third, with the third partially redeemed by the 2 6th's and the 5th. Actually put all 3 together and its basically a wash for the 3rd.

ok this is what it means in the picks,

we owed tennessee a 6th this year i
f adam jones stayed with the cowboys without any incident, even one week suspension, then the cowboys wouldnt have to give a 6th pick this year. So, we dont give up our 6th. Now that 6th was used to send along with the first rounder and third rounder to Detroit.

The Cowboys also get back from tennessee for adam jones being suspended a 5th rounder. Tenneesee is scrambling now, because they owe a team a pick around that pick and they were going to use the cowboys pick to recoup their pick, now they dont have our pick in 6th round, and have to give the cowboys back a 5th. At one time, was suppose to be a 4th rounder back, but the commissioner nixed that deal, and said the cowboys would only get back a 5th if adam jones got suspended at any time this year while playing for the cowboys.

Someone posted earlier what the picks the cowboys do have but I will post it again for you;

# 1 pick of cowboys goes to Detroit
# 2 pick of Cowboys have
# 3 pick of Cleveland in a trade last year, cowboys have
# 3 pick of Cowboys goes to Detroit
# 4 pick of Cowboys, cowboys have
# 4 pick of detroit in a trade last year, cowboys have
# 5 pick of tennessee cowboys have in adam jones being suspended back
# compensation pick for jacquee reeves 5th probably
# 5 pick of cowboys, cowboys have
# 6 pick of cowboys goes to detroit
# 6 pick of miamis cowboys get in trade last year for jason fergueson
# 6 compensation pick for julius jones, adam talked about this (my heart hopes its a 4th, way julius is runnning but adam our great salary cap guru says probably just a 6th pick
# 7 pick from detroiit in roy williams deal
# 7 pick of cowboys they have
# 7 pick compensation pick possibly for nate jones, doubtful but maybe

How good Zach Thomas plays will have some bearing on the compensation picks of reeves, jones, since the cowboys picked him up in free agency,

Hope that helps you,

If this is what it looks like, it's a good draft setup:

- 1st Traded to Detroit
2nd Original
+ 3rd Acquired from Cleveland
- 3rd Traded to Detroit
4th Original
+ 4th Acquired from Detroit
5th Original
+ 5th Acquired from Tennessee
* 5th Possible Compensation Pick
+ 6th Acquired from Miami
- 6th Traded to Detroit
* 6th Possible Compensation Pick
+ 7th Acquired from Detroit
7th Original
* 7th Possible Compensation Pick

The Zach Thomas signing should not affect us since he was a "street" FA. These remaining picks should help us with OL, NT, LB, and S (or develop QB?).

Yep we used our #1 on the WR we needed for the now, and the future, and we've still got a ton of picks from 2-7 that will allow us to add depth. Plus with all those extra picks it won't be completely out of the realm of possiblity for Jerry to get back into the late first round if there is someone there that he really covets.

We're in great shape after this deal. Great shape.

the compensation picks are at the end of each round, generally if your real, real lucky, you can get a 3rd round compensation pick.

So, lets start with the 5th round, that should be picks in 5th round picks 129 to 160, the compensation picks start at 161 to whatever, how many teams are awarded picks in that round for players they lost in free agency.

Now, if you sign players in free agency like Zach Thomas, then that is deducted away from you. The Cowboys only signed Zach Thomas in free agency, (I am not sure if he counts or not, like someone posted here) but whether he is or isnt. Lets go on with compensation picks.

How high a pick signs for free agency money, his production that year, determines how much of a compensation picks you get, and sometimes how high a draft pick he was that you drafted him. You have to draft him, best I remember too.

Now, with somewhat thoughts on that, and Adam is a better specialist on that then me. Anyway, you cant trade compensation picks. But what is does it allows you if say you have extra picks in the 4th round, 5th round, to package those picks, knowing that you still have those compensation picks that you get get a player at the end of each round in the draft.

I hope that helps you alittle. I am still hoping that Julius Jones keeps running wild the rest of the year for Seattle, and the Cowboys at least can get a 4th round compensation pick for him. Its doubtful, but you never know.

Zach doesn't count because he was cut by the Dolphins.

"Production" doesn't factor into the equation at all. It's based on contract, playing time and "postseason honors."

Nope. It doesn't matter who drafted the player.

There is NO chance we will get a fourth for Julius. It'll be almost impossible to get anything higher than a sixth because of the contract he signed.
