whats up cowboy fans, with your team having to learn a new offense and new defense..do you really think your team will be the best they can be this season? And how long do you think it will take for your team to get comfortable?
I think on Nov 18 they'll get the confidence booster they need to run away with the division :)

Have you ever taken note of the quick turnarounds teams seemingly go from bad-to-good in the salary cap era? It's not THAT uncommon.

Depends which Chicago team shows up. Last year, they started the season out really good offensively (when Grossman was playing well)

The Giants give us trouble. We don't matchup with them well, for whatever reason, it seems.

I still do not consider any of those team as dominate offensive units. Grossman and Manning both are guys who will make many mistakes if you can put pressure on them. I expect both games to be hard fought games but I would not put either team in the same class as Indy, SD or Cinn when it comes to offensive fire power

You ask for our prediction. I gave you mine. You tell me to temper my prediction. I ask for yours and you refuse.

Sack up. Give me a prediction.

I am not saying they are dominant. I am merely stating that we'll be tested from the get-go.

Chicago, when Grossman played well, was plenty potent offensively. The Giants have a nice WR/TE tandem in Burress/Shockey. Big backs, interesting other WRs in Smith, Toomer (if healthy), and Moss.

Whether or not they will be good offenses remains to be seen. But they have pieces that will certainly provide a solid test for our defense.

That's all I was trying to relay.

I think that I'm incredibly glad that a Commanders fan was so bored with the start of his own team's training camp that he had to come troll a Cowboys board.

If you were any greener, we'd be convinced you were an Eagles fan. I guess you can only read about Jason Campbell sucking it up so much before boredom sets in and you want to read about real QBs.

Is it the exception?

Tennessee Titans in 2006. Improved just be drafting Vince Young and changing their offense to suit his strengths.

New York Jets in 2006. Improved just by changing defensive philosophies.

You might want to brush up on your "I think I'll rain on their parade" skills, because the facts do not support your assertions.

Not Neccessarily. I'm sure you're going off of the Skins offense switching to Saunders from Gibbs... and eveyone in Commanders Land is saying that it takes a year to get used to Saunders system. Plus, all the Skins fans are quoting how in St. Louis and KC it took those teams until year two to get his system down. I know all of that. That isn't always the case though.

Like many others have stated - we aren't changing much on offense. Just tweaking it to fit Garrett and putting in a few things he likes. Overall though, it will look a lot like last year's unit with a seasoned Tony Romo, Fasano, and an added Leonard Davis.

The defense should take off. Everywhere Phillips has been, he comes in and improves the defense in his first season. In some of those cases, he changed from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 defense. We are staying 3-4 and the learning curve won't be very bad at all. His system isn't complicated for the players to learn and he's very good at using the talent he has available.

If you're counting on us having a year to adjust to new schemes like Washington did last year on offense... I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

Nice try at curbing our enthusiasm and putting a damper on what has been a terrific first week of camp, though.

The local coverage sucks, they don't have anything like we have in Dallas with the blogs and such. Jason La Confora is the closest thing to it, and he's not taken to the modern blog age all that well. His are sporadic, and read more like beat reports than periodic updates on the team and their practices. I haven't trolled ES or the warpath for info on them yet, and don't really plan on it. But you don't really get anything from the Post or 980.

From LaConfora's blog -

Also, get used to hearing Segal's name. He's been getting a lot of stars - had Reggie Bush last year - and will no doubt use this contract, with nearly $18 million guaranteed for a player not taken in the top 5, to lure more clients. He is the agent for Jason Campbell as well, and I have chatted with two very reputable NFL personnel guys recently who both believe JC is gonna be a real good one and who both asked me the same question:

When are the Skins going to extend his contract?

Sure, JC is only entering the third year of a five year deal, but teams want to have franchise QBs locked down, and the Commanders traditionally have not been among the most proactive at getting these things done early and quickly (these two personnel guys have both expressed some dismay that Cooley's new deal hasn't been completed yet either).

If JC becomes the QB the Commanders think he can be, or turns out to be as good as these two executives believe he can be, the Skins wouldn't want him to get anywhere near free agency. These guys think the Commanders would be very wise to get to JC early, and Segal is a noted dealmaker, so I know he'd be willing to listen. Just something to put in the back pocket for now.

The Commanders went 5-11 in 2003 and then 6-10 in 2004. Gibbs made them better. Though they still sucked.

Thanks Superpunk.

Sounds like the Skins Brass is high on JC (though, "duh" comes to mind).

Sounds like some 'wishful thinking' to me.

The Cowboys changes aren't as wide-ranging as you seem to believe.

Phillips is still running a 3-4 defense, just a more aggressive version.

And Garrett isn't blowing up the #5 offense from 2006 either. More like adding variations to it. Sparano is still a key part of the offensive staff.

Hopefully, the changes will be for the better and maximize the team's on-field results.

A terrific first week of camp??? That's almost impossible to tell. If your offense burns your defense, then is your offense great, or your defense sucks??? If your defense shuts down your offense, is your defense great or your offense bad?

Anyways, it's hard to determine how your pass rush is doing if you don't have your two starting tackles. To see how your team is doing, let's wait until they play somebody other then themselves, okay?

well this thread will probably get to about 20 pages.

And I bet somewhere along the line a Commanders fan will talk about the greatness of gibbs and how roy williams sucks and sean taylor is better!

I say page 9 on gibbs and page 12 on the roy stuff.
