WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) -- Tiger Woods never pitched over a water hazard quite like this.

Woods and caddie Steve Williams conquered New Zealand's highest bungy jump Sunday, diving 440 feet from a cable car suspended over a river valley. The leap is regarded as one of the world's most daunting challenges for adventure tourists.

That was only the beginning of their thrill-seeking in New Zealand, where Woods was best man at Williams' wedding: They planned to race in powerful dirt-track cars Monday.

But not before their more than eight-second free-fall from the cable car held by 1,247 feet of tension wires spanning the Nevis Valley, where the canyon's walls narrow to about 100 feet at river level.

They made the jump from the Nevis Highwire near the South Island township of Queenstown during a visit to the resort by helicopter and private jet.

Woods will drive a powerful stock car in a 12-lap celebrity race at a dirt-track speedway south of Auckland on New Zealand's North Island on Monday. The race was organized by Williams, a racing enthusiast, to raise funds to provide sporting careers for disadvantaged youth.

Woods, the best man Friday in Williams' wedding to Kirsty Millar, said he expected to be involved in crashes during the race, but added his insurance was "taken care of."

You know I have always wanted to sky dive or try a glider.

But have never really wanted to bungee jump.

Not saying I would not do it if I had the chance, but I just think for a guy it would just have to really hurt or really have a good chance of messing up your joints, especially if you are heavy set.

Brain, I've been a sky diver for sometime, got my introduction into it in the military. If you at all like heights, as I do, it's something I'd encourage you to try at least once.

Me personally, I'll pass on the bungee stuff, but I try to get a least 3-4 jumps in a year. With all the schools around now, it's something even a 1st-timer can do in a 1/2 day, and is relatively inexpensive.
