RC we agree on most things, but this we dont agree on. This a truly deplorable human being. I doubt anyone thinks animals (ie dogs) are more important than humans, but what he did was still sickening. You probably should go back and read all the details of the crap he did, then come back and tell me if you still feel the same. Throwing golden retreiver puppies in with trained killer pitbulls to "warm them up" is beyond sick. Honestly had he done something like that to a dog I owned I would have killed him, and not felt the least bit sorry about it. There's a long list of decrepid acts he did here as well.
dbair, I grant you that I don't know all the details in the case. For example, I had no idea about what you just described. And I completely agree (please hear me say this), that animal cruelty is deplorable and despicable. I am in no way defending it. I own an American Bulldog. Our English Bulldog that we had from a puppy recently died and it was losing an old friend. I believe that a person's treatment of animals is a window into their soul and character.
But what I am reacting to is the misguided set of values in our society right now when it comes to people vs. animals. (my opinion of course)
And I read of, and I hear of, and I SEE people who treat animals like people, and actually have more compassion for animals then people, and more of a sense of outrage over crimes against animals than people.
Is what Vick did more cruel than partial birth abortion? (now we are talking "human pups".) Do we have any playing in the NFL that would say that is ok? I wonder if we have anyone playing who has actually paid for one of those?
I know these are uncomfortable subjects, but that is a part of the problem isn't it? We can't even discuss these things in a civil fashion if we aren't on the PC side of the issues. We can publicly state our outrage over cruelty to animals, and in most cases it is completely appropriate, and I don't disagree with it. But why can't I publicly state my outrage over abortion without being branded as some fanatic and shouted down and censored?
Anyway, I grant this one to you, because you might know even more details about the case that you haven't shared yet, and if it is indeed sicker and sicker you may indeed be correct in your view, and I may indeed be wrong.
I was just dealing with a broader issue that bothers me. Many people (note, I didn't say all, or even most) who are so strong on animal rights don't have the same outrage about crimes committed against people. (Such as child abuse)
