Anyone here playing?

How do you sell ships?

Right click on the ship and sell it! You need to choose to either release your captain or first return him to your collection. You can only have so many captains though.

Also, you can sell your upgrades or keep them. If you keep them, they require doubloons to dismount them. I just sell them with the ship.

btw, Welcome to Davy Jones Locker! :D

I'm _SlaughterMachine_ So, DIE DIE DIE!!!

(that's with the underscores, some jerk took my name before I could get it)

Can you switch your user name?

I'm playing a tier IV Soviet ship - Sveitlana. Cruiser.

All my level 1's are complete now working on level 2's for it.
Had a big day yesterday.
4 of 5 wins in the open battle with 12.
Lots of XP onto the ship.
I also sunk 4 in one battle yesterday.
I try to make sure I hit with guns and torpedoes are to distract opponent.

I don't believe so. If you can, I'm not sure how. I've never actually tried.

As for advice. Watch the all the how-to videos on Youtube. Especially ones that are produced by the World of Warships and their little "talk sessions" Also, There are a few really good guys that play and make videos discussing different ships and tactics. They are a great wealth of information. (I believe iChaseGaming is one of them)

A couple of things:

DD = Destroyer
BB = Battleship
CV = Carrier
Cruiser is cruiser
  • If you're a DD, don't shoot AP. Just stick to HE.
  • If you're very far or fairly close. Use HE, not AP. APs will ricochet off or over-penetrate if their impact angle isn't right. (watch the videos I noted above about this)
  • If you're a BB, don't shoot AP at DDs. They will over-penetrate and go right through the ship doing less damage.
  • If you're a DD and you see a higher level BB. Avoid him. Sometimes none of your shells will do any damage because their armor is too thick! You can basically only torp them.
  • As a cruiser, if you have Torps. Don't play like a DD. That is a death trap. Use the torps when other ships get to close to you. Don't go all DD on the other team with your cruiser. They aren't as agile as a DD.
  • CV's have fighters, dive bombers, and torp planes. If a torp plane is coming at you, turn into the plane. (make yourself skinny) If a dive bomber is coming at you. Turn your side to the plane. (make yourself wide, but thin depth wise) These make it harder for them to hit you.
  • If you're a DD, just disable your AA guns ("p" on the keyboard) The AA guns will give away your location and as a DD, you never want people to know where you are and their AA guns are trash anyhow. You would be lucky to actually shoot a plane down. It's just not worth the visible exposure. You need your stealth!
  • As a cruiser don't launch your plans unless there are other fighters near by or other ships like DDs near by. It will help spot them and the fighters will fight off enemy fighters/bombers/torp planes. They have limited uses and if you use them all up when they aren't valuable. You won't have them when they are very valuable! (enemies near by)
  • Try to work as a team. Going solo (which a lot of people do) is a lot less opportunistic and just not good tactics.
  • Cruisers and DDs are support ships. It's best to support your BBs or other Cruisers if no BBs are near by.
  • Try to flank ships with your DDs while they are occupied with other bigger ships banging on them.
  • Use your ZOOM to see which direction a ships guns are facing. If a BBs guns are 180 degrees away from you GREAT! It takes BBs a long time to turn their ship/guns. Cruisers can be slower too, but not near as slow. DDs can generally turn their guns quickly and can usually torp from both sides of the boat!
  • Buy your ship upgrades. Both the normal ones (hull, guns, radar, etc) but also the boxes with the + sign that you can buy from the get go once you get a new ship.
  • If you really enjoy playing, Premium is worth it. You get a lot more XP per game with Premium. You don't have to have it though. That's the good thing.
There is a bunch more, just watch the videos. I'm at work so I can't think and go through all of them.

Tell Davy Jones' locker I said hello! :D

Thanks. I am pretty much - as a Cruiser - sticking to the AP - Shell type 1.
Once game is going it's hard to switch over back and forth.
I sold some of the old level 1 and 2 ship types back - got not too much but who cares.
I researched and bought a level V ship which I added and upgraded mods to already.
But kept using the level IV as I am used to that one.
I'll look at the V level when ready.

What about the Captain / ship commander. Should I switch them also?

I do try to support the BB and shoot the DD when I can as they are like a misquito with a bad bite / sting.
I try to stay with a big group as when they shoot as a group it kills the other ships faster..
Or as you say support the BB and shoot first ship in range.
Throw torps as best as I can - to the front but the other player has to be asleep to not to see mine coming.

I've only one DD off the tree and got spanked both times I used that type. So went back to the Cruiser type.

Yes. I've visited Davey Jones locker on a regular basis.
But try to stay afloat till the end.

Shell type 1 (the 1 key) is the HE shells, not AP. AP is the #2 button. For the most part this is good. Once you get into higher ships, some of them (Cruisers) have great AP shells. I own the Indianapolis. That ship is awesome, but it's a premium ship. It will citadel like crazy. (watch iChase's Indianapolis video, he gets like 13 in one match!)

As for Captains, yes. You want to keep them and move them up so you don't have to keep retaining them from scratch.

I also sell most of my older ships. I keep a few around so that I can play with other friends that have lower level ships.

My highest ship right now is a VII. I have the Mayhan DD, Indianapolis, and the Sims. I have the VI BB (New Mexico) I don't play a lot of Cruisers. My friends that play with me all like Cruisers. I tend to stick with BB or DD.

Yep, DDs require a totally different playing style. BBs do too compared to DDs. Cruisers are a nice medium.

Yes. For me - point - shoot move about so not to hit islands. Then hide behind them - let opponent get involved - then broadside them. :)

I wish there were more or different battle set up's to use though.
Seems like only 6 to 8 are available.

They've enabled Bastion mode in the last update, but I believe you have to be level 8+ to play it. (I haven't yet) They have battle placements on land that shoot at you if you're in enemy territory. If you take them, then they shoot at the enemy! :)

I've got to say, this is probably the best free video game I've ever played. There are other good games out there that I've played out there that are free, but not full video games. While it has micro-transactions if you want. They aren't as limiting as some of the others like League of Legends. League of Legends will make you poor for a free game hah. (which is why I played it when it was first released back in 2009 then quit)

Yes. I read about the Bastion mode.
And Yes. Free is good.
Although they keep dangling the carrot out there to buy the gold coins to upgrade your ship faster.

What do the coins cost?

I seldom buy coins. Though sometimes I will buy a ship "loaded" bundle which comes with premium days, doubloons (coins), the ship, and a port slot for the ship, camo, and all the upgrades already with the ship. I will usually use the doubloons to transfer my captain to a new ship without losing any of his training.

You can buy doubloons here.

You can also buy like 500 for something like $2.50 if you need a port slot or something for a new ship, I don't recall exactly.

It's Cruiser 2X weekend too. So your first win with a cruiser, you will get 2x exp for each ship. Probably today, Sat, and Sunday.

Sam:

I'm up to level 5 in Cruisers US.
Omaha.

Doing OK I guess. I took my captain off the level IV ship and put him into this one to try to cut the learning curve.

I get killed off too fast when I don't hang back like most other players.
I love it when in group of 12 I hit first or second in damage dealed out.
I try to see BB involved with someone else and hit him also to get them out quicker.

You're spot on with Torpedoes - not unless close - shoot them and run like as fast as ship goes.

The game is fun right? Of course, sometimes when you're on a terrible team. It's awful hah. My buddies and I will play and the next thing you know it. It's us and maybe one other guy against all of the other team. (maybe minus 1 or 2) The issue is they all go kamikaze on the enemy and that is nothing but a death trap.

One trick we've used before is get a DD to go hid up against an island and puff smoke before the enemy gets there. Let your ships stay back off of the island, but in visible range. This gets the enemy to get closer and the smoke helps hid the fact that the DD is there. Once they get close enough to see him even through the smoke, it's too late! :D

That works when there is a large spread out group of islands.

I haven't been playing as much lately. It's been crazy busy and usually when I play (Friday nights) my buddies have been busy a lot lately with family stuff. (Vacations, etc)

I've been playing this too. It's fun if not overly realistic. Driving a Pensacola CA is like being a marked man.

They added a few new maps to the game so it's better.
I was tired of the same old ones.

Yes. A good DD driver will sit out of sight and torp the first big ship through a gap.
If a DD lasts till the end of a game I'm Surprised.
When I see them within 9K I make them priority target.

Now that my ship is level V I'm playing most games with level V or above.
I try to last as long as I can and put hits on any opponent.

But sometimes your the target of a group or get hit by Battleship full on then it's kaboom time and slow sink.

I switched Captains from my level IV American Cruiser to my now level V US cruiser. it took awhile to get my mods out of the yellow.
Now operating full go.

But it will be a long haul to get the Cruiser now to get better mods. The points are hear to come by.
Game coins are not so hard I think at the height, before I trained and bought this ship I was at 8 million or so. Now down to 6 million with the buying and training.

Seems like everyone jumped on the new German Battleship a few weeks back.

What puzzles me is no English Navy.
What one French ship.
No Italian navy.
