Worst penalty in the history of football

I think I may have seen the worst penalty ever today. In the Saints/Skins game, Reggie Bush takes a punt back for a TD. Just before the goal line, Bush points his finger towards a Skins player. I mean this was an act that lasted 1 Second. It was kind of a casual point as well. He didn't even make a big deal of pointing, but he got a 15 yard penalty for it.

I don't know what it is but I swear they are trying to emasculate this game we love so much with these stupid penalties.

...because I want to query everyone opinion if they want to offer it up.

I coach a pee wee team and this past Sunday we were playing and one of our players decided to do a somersault in the end zone after scoring a TD.

He was penalized, and I pulled him over and talked to him about "showboating".

Parents came up to me after the game and talked to me about the incident. My personal feelings were I didn't like it either.

On Football USA where I am a member there has been many discussions of this and how this is not appropriate for youth sports.

If there are adults who feel strongly about kids "showboating" as a negative, then why do we condone it at the professional level.

Many posters have referred to this as having fun, or they rip the NFL as the "No Fun League".

If adults can do it, why can't the kids?

It was a ridiculous penalty.

They won't allow that, threw the flag at Owens, but allow every packer and his grandma to jump into the stands. If that isn't showing up the other team with a preplanned celebration, what is.

Two main differences I see.

Because kids are doing it for the simple joy of the game. When you're just learning the game and the main people watching are parents just wanting to see their loved ones out there, they're not going to want to see another team showing off.

On the otherhand It's a year round job for professionals who beat up their body. And for this they get paid millions of dollars and play in front of millions of people across the nation. If they want to have a little fun (there does need to be some limit) and dance or something after scoring a TD then so be it. Let grown men have fun playing the game, and give the fans something fun or funny to see.

I'm pretty sure bush has been penalized for that before. I think hes an idiot for continuing to do it, no matter how slight.

I seem to remember Priest Holmes always turning around and show boating before every TD he scored. Hard to believe that he would be penalized after every TD in these days.

I coached Pop warner as well. It has no place in Pop Warner because as another poster said, they are there for the fun of the game and it is insulting to the other kids to show boat that way. But the NFL is entirely different. It's a business and the players only have that stage to market themselves for anything outside of football.

The problem is that I don't see this thing being handed out evenly.
Yesterday, after Jason Taylor got a sack he spun around and did some weird little gesture. He didn't get a flag for that. But Bush gets one for pointing his finger. TO gets one for paying tribute to Bolt?

Let them celebrate (the pros) and let us, the fans enjoy the game. As for the kids, they are still learning the fundamentals. When they get to the pros then they can somersault into the endzone all they want.
