The cowboys do not use a 3rd down back in their system. They use 2 guys who can run, block and receive. If you can't do those 3 things you need not apply. Felix jones, chris johnson are two guys that can't do those 3 things. Rice, Stewart, Mendenhall and maybe a couple others fit that profile. We will not draft a guy that is just a 3rd down speed back.

I agree with you but Marion Barber and Julius Jones wouldn't be able to apply either as rookies.

If you have talent it doesn't hurt to try and develop a player.

If you can teach Chris Johnson the entire game of football and give him respect for the details he could be a bigtime player like Portis was when he slipped to the 2nd round.

Just cuz you think he's not 1st round talent doesn't mean it's true. IMO he's the 2nd best RB in this draft. EXTREMELY underrated.

I like him but I dont see him as being a better prospect than a lot of those second tier RBs like Charles, CJ, Jones etc. If we are going RB in the first round I only want Mendenhall, Stewart of DMac.

And while i like Rice I think hes probably the most overrated prospect on these boards battling Schmitt although it looks like people have generally come to their senses regarding him.

He benefited from Teel getting almost 300 yards a game, two 1000 yard receivers and one of the best offensive lines in college football. hes got good speed and hes lightning quick but hes not powerful at all. Every time I see a defender getting their hands on him, I see Rice going down.

People compare him to Emmitt but I think thats absurd. I see him as more of a Warrick Dunn type back. Thats very very good but i just don't see him being so much better that we should reach for him.

I also note that there are a lot of armchair quarterbacks out there, but I agree with cobra when he says "siitng on your couch watching college football is not scouting." i know youre all pretty knowledgeable but when hes a concensus 2nd to 3rd round pick, maybe just maybe they lknow a bit more than the rest of us.

I think most people not named theo can accept that.

I like him as a player...but he is not a 1st rd talent and he isnt going to be drafted in the 1st rd

Its amazing to me how everyone (including myself) fancy themselves to be some kind of draft expert. We throw out info like we really know what kind of grade these teams have on the kid. He's labled by someone as a 2nd round guy so everyone on the internet regurgitates the same info over and over. He could just as well be a first round grade as he could a 3rd. Unless we have some real NFL scouts or GM's posting in this thread we really just don't know. (But its fun to speculate)

If they pick him at 28 and feel like they got a guy who was good value at that pick (IE first round grade) then I'll be happy.

Not sure how people can compare him to other backs that we can get second round and say he is better. Charles would be the better pick up.
