Would good Murray have helped us today?

The lack of productivity by the running game, especially in light of the expectations and assurances, won't allow us to forget Murray.

Last season DeMarco Murray led the league in yardage in 1st and 10 situations. Because of this, the Cowboys were rankled #1 in average yards per carry on 1st and ten with 5.2 yards.

In the 2nd half, they were first place with 5.6 yards a carry

On average, in the 2nd half the Cowboys lined up on 2nd down with 4.4 yards to go. That is an amazing advantage for any quuarterback, it opens up all types of options and prevents the defense from keying on either aspect of the offense, running or passing.

A backup quarterback could have really used that kind of advantage, particularly in the 2nd half.

Murray averaged 4.6 yards a carry in the 2nd half last season.

Randle is averaging 2.2 yards a carry after the 1st quarter. His "good game" was typical, he ran for 85 yards his first three carriese then 2 yards on his next 11. The stats don't tell you when these yards are produced, I will tell you they are far more important towards the end of the game. Randle is done after 10 carries, on average.

On 1st and ten in the 2nd half the Cowboys average 2.6 yards a carry, 3 full yards less than last season abnd currently ranked 27th. On average, it's 2nd and more than 7. You simply can't sustain 2nd half drives with these poor results.

It's a domino effect. Now they must pass more and the defense knows this. Even if they are successful, which is rare, the drives take a much shorter time, so the defense has to be on the field longer.

The wounded defense could have used a RB capable of extending drives and keeping them on the bench.

The depleted passing attack needed much more assistance from their running game.

Yes, DeMarco Murray, with his familiarity with the offense and mutual familiarity between him and the line would have made ALL the difference, just like it did last season.

I know we need get over Murray being gone, but we couldn't run in the second half and that was a big part of us losing. The defense was tired because the offense had too little TOP in the second half. Last season with Murray we would've ran out the clock or tried to. However, that doesn't completely explain what happened with the defense.

There is not right answer to a hypothetical question, the answers will likely be in line with how each person views Murray to begin with.
Right now my only concern is the Cowboys improving and becoming more consistent in the run game. I loved that Randle had 3 very good runs but running game has to be more than 2 or 3 runs it needs to produce consistent results for it to be an effective part of the offense.
Honestly not thrilled with the running game right now and looking for RB and OL to start showing the consistency that made it so effective for the team in the past

Murray is already injured. I'm sure he would of been injured by now if he was still on the team so this question is irrelevant

Another tribute to our "elite" O-line.

And why do you think Murray had been hurt previously in 2011 and 2012 WHILE the line was being built?

Of course Murray would have helped. His pass blocking would have helped, and he would have likely converted on 3rd and short to avoid punting, and we may have had some shorter 3rd downs to face, but he would not have made the difference in winning or losing. I can tell you one thing for certain, he never would have scored that first TD Randall scored...never....he would have lowered his shoulder and turned what looked like a loss into a 2-3 yard gain, not a long TD run.
