Would rather a Zeke suspension this or next year?

The Reality thread about Zeke got me thinking. If legal action could possibly delay the suspension which would you take? For this exercise lets assume that he will be facing a 6 game suspension no matter what. The trial would just delay the suspension. Would you rather see the suspension this year for 6 games or next year for 6 games?

Personally, I would take the 6 games this year. The reasoning being that with so many other suspensions, the revamp of the secondary, the lack of pass rush, young defensive players, that were not truly legitimate contenders this year. Next year with another year for the young guys on D and Dak that much more into his development, we have a better chance at the show.

Given your scenario (which I disagree with), I'd delay it until next year. For the reason that I would have the offseason, free agency, and the draft to insulate myself against that possible suspension as best as I possibly could.

Next year.

If the 6 games stood, that means he can't be around anybody on the team for six weeks. Can't come to the facility, can't be in contact, nothing.

Do you want Zeke roaming the country with nothing to do for six weeks right now?

For similar reasons as you stated to just take it this year is why I would take it next year. The rest of the team should be better. You'd have improvement from the young players and we should for once actually have some cap room to sign a pass rusher. Having a full offseason to prepare is a much better position.

On another note, if you just take it this year, you have no chance at getting the suspension vacated. If you don't pursue the courts and push it, you lose that chance to not miss a game and clear his name. That's the main cause for this fight.

Neither. If this suspension stands it'll reenforce my questionable theories about the NFL being biased towards the Cowboys.

I actually do not want that.

I don't agree, by delaying the process the advantage the "team" gains, is in the time. Time to prepare for a 6 week absence, time to either trade for a replacement for Zekes absence, or develop from within, maybe Rod Smith. Just saying the more time the better for the team aspect.

I would rather Elliott's absence for any length of time impact the team sooner than later unless his suspension can be totally negated.

This season, we probably won't have the quality RB's that are here now. Also, the defensive backfield will need time to develop. I would rather not start off without him next season with a more experienced defense teady to roll.

You dont think they have prepared for it already? They seem more than happy with who they have as backups.

I see this as a growth year and to some degree, already going in the wrong direction.

What would you expect them to say given the circumstances? The fact if the matter is that they operated under the impression that there would be no suspension, Jerry Jones said himself he saw no reason for one.

Delaying proceedings gives them a year to draft or sign the best replacement they could find rather than playing clear backups.

True, but that's not the question I asked. I said if it was a 6 game suspension either way. And I do like your cap room point. For me, that pushes even more in the direction of taking the hit now. Our legitimate shot to win will be next year and beyond.

I disagree that they didnt prepare for this. He may have next expected it, but he wouldnt be dumb enough to really think it wasnt a possibility. And given a whole year who exactly do you think they are going to bring in here? Jerry is in love with McFadden.

Do it now.

Get it over with. Don't let this hang over Zeke and the teams head for a year.

It's like paying off a debt. I'd rather do it sooner than later. His interest will be his reputation and a bit of a distraction for the franchise. Get it over with.
