Is Jalen Hurts or Kevin Patullo the Real Problem for the Eagles Offense?

Benching Hurts and Moving On
If the Eagles do make the once unfathomable choice to bench Hurts and ultimately go on to fare better with McKee at the helm—potentially even defending their title with the backup under center—it could lead to one of the most intriguing quarterback controversies in league history.
It wouldn't be unprecedented for a backup to emerge as a superstar after supplanting the starter. Hurts himself stepped in for an ineffective Carson Wentz just over a half-decade ago and never relinquished the role. Wentz hadn't won a Super Bowl the previous season, nor made it to the big game a couple years prior, which makes this one of the more interesting hypothetical scenarios that has a chance (albeit an extremely small one) of playing out over the next few months.

They're not benching him. He's struggling because the run game is struggling. No elite run game, he's an average QB. Hell, Mark Sanchez had success with that run game until he didn't have it. Neither QB is going to throw the ball into coverage 30-35 times a game when they need to.

Hurts their 51M a year QB that they are stuck with until 2028. They're not benching him. But in order to get back to the SB, they're going to have to do what got them there. Have a top run game in the league. Like in 2022 and last year. Even if it means Hurts has to carry 15 times a game.

I get that but remember, they didn't hesitate to move on from Wentz. I agree, they probably won't bench him but I think it could be that they don't have a better option. Something serious is going on with him.........like his confidence is shot.

That's what happened in 2023. He looked like dog crap when the run game broke down. He reverted back to 2021. Same now.

They didn't have a choice with Wentz. He wasn't playing. His dead cap was like 40M+, not 140M like Hurts. If he struggles mightily in a game, they might bench him. But they're not cutting him, and they will start him.

The article's writer, the fans, and even the Philadelphia or national media are not the Eagles. Could Jalen Hurts be benched temporarily for poor play during a game? Yes.

Permanently? That likelihood is tiny. They will not bench a Super Bowl-winning quarterback with multiple title game appearances under his belt. Could the team's season outcome ultimately decide Nick Sirianni's fate in the offseason? Sure. Head coaches tend to take it on the chin more often than established players--especially those players whom the team has made a franchise-level investment in.

Hard to believe some on social media are calling Sunday's game against the Raiders a must-win.
I mean technically it is without knowing our results

If they lose to the Raiders, any other loss puts us into the playoffs by winning out. If they lose 3, we only have to win 3.

They can stumble. But losing Sunday would almost cook them as they play buffalo

The fine people of Philly might burn down Jalen Hurts home if this keeps up.

I hope they don’t.

I think Hurts is injured. He had a knee injury not long ago, prolly still hurt.

Can you really envision a ‘temporary benching’ for Hurts?

I can’t.

Once that bridge is burned, that’s it. There’s no going back.

Hurts cannot be a successful QB w/o running the ball profusely. He's subpar as a passer.

That's why you don't draft running QBs high in the draft. They are only good for 1-5 years. Why? Because they take way too much of a pounding.

Teams move away from past-successful coaches more easily than past-successful players because it's easier to justify the coach's success being a product of other people's performances such as players, coordinators, etc. than the other way around.
