Would you be happy w/this 1st round haul?

Styles at 12 I'm not so sure. I like the player, but do the Cowboys see the value in the position at 12? It's not a premium position in terms of money allocated. The money for a rookie at the 12 pick is going to be around 24 million give or take. Booker cost 22. something last year. So, wouldn't it be wise to go after Dean or Bush in FA, players that have already cut their teeth in the league and proven themselves on the field already, and more importantly can be had for roughly the same cost as it would be to sign Styles to a deal at pick 12? I believe if Delane or McCoy are on the board at 12 that one of those two players will be the pick...a premium position to where the money makes sense on top of it being a big team need. Some of you feel a CB can be found in FA. and sure, you can find "a guy". but you're not going to find a true number 1 shut down type...Like a Witherspoon or Mitchell.
I agree with your logic but still want them to draft Styles at 12. I don't have much faith in our war room right now, and it would be hard for even them to botch picking Styles.

Field Yates put out a mock draft the other day that had the Cowboys staying put in the 1st round and selecting the following two players:

#12 - Sonny Styles (LB)
#20 - Dedric Faulk (DE)

Now, try to play along. Looking at these players in a vacuum (i.e., not factoring in who else was hypothetically available on the board), how would you feel coming away with these two defensive players in the 1st round?

My Take: I’d be happy to very happy to grab Styles at 12. I’m also much higher on Faulk than others. I think his upside is high and has a chance at being a real quality player. He’s a ready-made stout run defender that slots in as a starter playing 5-tech DE with the ability to flip inside and play the 3-tech. I think he has a chance to develop as a pass rusher and reliably give you 6-8 sacks a season. I think his floor is Chris Canty and his ceiling could be Cam Jordan.
Like Styles at 12, don’t like Faulk for us given our current roster investments.

I'm OK with it.

Styles is all about the interview.
- Off-ball LBs must have high football IQ and instincts.
- We've seen that great athletes without the football IQ are not great LBs.
- i.e. Kennethy Murray and Bruce Carter.
- Obviously the measurables for Styles are terrific.

Faulk seems like a safe pick to at least be a good rotational player.
- Scheme is critical for him.
- The Eagles played Nickel the vast majority of snaps.
- I think that will be the same to Parker with the Cowboys.
- i.e. Fault has to be drafted based on played in a 4-man line the majority of snaps.
- Is he an Edge in a 4-man line of 3-tech DT?
- I think some tweeners have been yo-yo'd in the NFL limiting them.
- Does Fault play at 275-ish a 4-man Edge or stay up at 285/290 at a 3-tech?

Yeah, I’d be very happy if these guys were our first two picks and we added a guy like Hendrickson and Nakobe Dean and/or Blankenship to help transition the defense to Parker’s scheme.
Yes, they really need to add free agents to makeup their baseline roster and then draft best player available.

How does Bradley Chubb compare to Hendrickson for 2026?

Hendrickson is the better player; a real difference making pass rusher. Folks are wary of his injury last year but it only required a 6 week recovery. Look at Chubb’s injury history; he’s had three seasons (out of 8) where’s he only played in 7 games or less.

Chubb also had like a 11% PRWR this past season which is not good. I think fans see the 8 sacks and think he is still a guy but he does not move the needle for me at all.

I'd want both Clowney and Faulk.
Young 20 year old kid, should only get better in a pro system. Get him working and learning with Clowney. Will be a 3/4 run stuffer straight away and learn to be a better pass Rusher as he shares time with Clowney the first year.
I've warmed up to the idea of him at 20. If he's there. He's an option.

This team would be happy if any 3 of those Ohio players is there on defense at # 12. Mansoor Delane also. They might take McCoy at 20 if he's there. Who knows how his health checks out and how ready he is to play not playing for a season?

Faulks floor is Chris Canty and Ceiling is Deforest Buckner who the Cowboys where very high on years ago in the draft.

Doubt Faulk is there at 20 come draft time. Take him if he is.

Better prospect than Mykiel Williams was last year.
