I really dislike silly threads and mock drafts where clearly talented players fall way below where they should go and miraculously end up on the team that the mock draft creator supports.
Had you told me a month ago that Quinn would fall out of the top 5, I would think you are crazy. But I have seen more and more that people are speculating he will fall out of the top 5. If that is the case, then the question is how far does the freefall occur?
And if the unthinkable happens, that he falls to us, do we take him in light of Romo?
This thought sounded silly to me until I looked at the teams and their needs at QB if he falls out of the top 5:
6. Commanders - Campbell
7. Vikings - Tavaris. Jackson (2nd round 2006)
8. Texans - Carr? Plummer?
9. Dolphins - Culpepper (expensive FA 2006)
10. Falcons - Vick/Shaub.
11. 49ers - Alex Smith.
12. Bills - JP Losman.
13. Rams - Bulger.
14. Panthers - Delhomme.
15. Steelers - Roethlisberger.
16. Packers - Favre; Aaron Rodgers, Ingle Martin, Todd Bouman
17. Jaguars - Garrard/Leftwich.
18. Bengals - Palmer.
19. Titans - Vince Young.
20. Giants - Manning.
21. Broncos - Cutler.
22. Dallas Cowboys - Romo.
Now, if he falls out of the top 5, the most obvious choice would be Houston. But there might be an issue there. Houston is apparently going to be bringing in Jake Plummer to reunite with Kubiak. That certainly doesn't mean they wouldn't take Quinn. But if they are sitting there with Quinn and Peterson on the board, I think they would go with Peterson on the theory that they could get Peterson in the first, maybe grab a good qb in the second and ride Plummer for a couple of years.
If he falls past Houston, then the freefall could be big. The only teams who would even look at him would be Carolina and Jax. (The Pack could be another choice, but I think at some point they will have to see if Rodgers or Ingle Martin have anything, since that is a 1st and 2nd round pick). Carolina and Jax both have qbs of questionable long term value. But if they both pass on Quinn, he will fall to 22.
Sounds crazy. But I thought it was crazy a few years ago when the #1 RB, Steven Jackson, somehow fell to us.
The draft is weird.
If he does, oh man do I see a giant clustermess here.
