In an article I read where Wade talked about Merriman and Ware, liking both on his draft board and saying he never dreamed that he would get to coach both players so early in their careers, it got me to thinking, what if he were able to coach both Merriman and Ware ON THE SAME TEAM?

This got me to thinking about a rather unlikely scenario, and decided to pose the question to you Zoners. Now before all you monday morning football geniuses go off half-baked and half-cocked and say "That would never happen" or "They would never go for a trade like that", understand that this is strictly hypothetical and making an assumption that all parties would agree to the scenario. And yes, I know, if "ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas"...but hey this is my world and that's no fun.

Assuming that you are Jerry Jones, and assuming that San Diego had a need for such a high pick and assuming San Diego/Merriman were agreeable to the trade and assuming that our 1st round pick from Cleveland is a Top 5 pick in next year's draft, would you........

Trade Cleveland's 1st round pick to San Diego for Merriman and line him up opposite Ware?

Cleveland's pick will go a long way towards getting a young difference maker at a position where we could use the help. And LB is NOT one of those positions.

If we did this, we'd basically be saying that our past two 1st rounders were all for naught.

I like Merriman but I hope we start looking to offense. We have some guys that are not getting any younger and some players were an upgrade would be a big help.

So please tell me then what we are going to do with him? Will he beat out either Ware or Merriman to start? No? So he's going to be a backup then, huh? Ok. And if he does, then it either puts Ware on the bench, or the guy we just sold the farm for.

Again, no. I would not. We are not playing Madden here, and however you may want to paint your perfect little Cowboys world, that trade would not make one iota of sense. Regardless of the "spirit" of your post.

Maybe we should trade our own first rounder for Terrell Suggs. And package our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for Brian Urlacher.

Then we could have Ware, Merriman, Suggs, Urlacher, AND Spencer.
