Would you trade Marion Barber for a 1st?

There are cap ramafactations, but with everything being equal, and if the cap didn't exist.

Yes. For a pick in the top 10

There are only 2 players right now wearing a Dallas Cowboy uniform that I wouldn't trade for a 1st rounder(Top 10).

That may be the greatest spelling error in history. :)

We already have enough 'dead money' on the cap after cutting T.O., and RW! No need to go back to the late 90's, early 2000's when this crippled our ability to get better, younger players, IMO!

Pretty sure he isnt tradable because of the cap.

The time to trade him was last yr before we gave him that huge contract. We'd have probably got more for him then and we'd be clear of that extremely large contract. I like MBIII, but he wasnt worth that kind of money.

It's posible he will be the 3rd best RB on this team this yr and if so, he's a huge bust considering that contract.

I have that opinion too.

Right now I (for whatever its worth) consider him to be the 2nd best RB on this team.

Cap aside, if we could get a first for him, I'd do it.

Then target Lesean McCoy in the 2nd (may have to move up a bit in the 2nd).

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Barber fan, but he takes way too many hits and trading him now will benefit this team in the long run.

:laugh1:

I know how to spell that word, I have no idea what I was thinking.

Ramification.

It made me laugh reading it back.

I think I made up a new word.

If a player like Andrian Peterson were siting there in the first round and we got the offer then its a different story. But in general i would have to go with a hell no.

I think so much of a running backs production is based on the offensive line. Some run blocking schemes are better suited from some running styles. I dont think our line did a very good job last year in blocking for Barber. I can remember too many times him getting hit as soon as he got the ball. It seems like most of our running yards last year were from 2 plays.
1. A pitch out sweep.
2. That fake throw, delay handoff we would do several times a game.

When we just lined up and tried to smash through the line. The defense was waiting for us in our backfield.

Probably had something to do with the defenses knowing our offensive line has an average IQ less than 80. They couldnt pick up a pass or run blitz.

Is it just me, or is anyone else growing weary of, "Would you trade ________?"

Especially when that trade would wreck the salary cap for this season.

I mean, is it possible for people to come up with trade ideas that are based in reality?

Greg Ellis for a second. I actually saw this posted.

Romo for Cutler. Yes, Let's eat 20 million.

Witten. Just the fact that this is one of the leaders on the team should be enough. But a poster actually was trying to make a case for Bennett. With no regard for cap, or the fact that we have one of the top TE's in the league and would be trading that guy away.

If there is a bong going around that I don't know about, please include me.

Please.

Then why not start some threads that you deem to be more based in reality? We always welcome some good, thought provoking material in the offseason.

So fast your head would spin. Avg career of NFL running back 3 years. Productive running backs can always be found in the draft, Barber was a fourth rounder. Also Barbers running style promotes a short career.

LOL.

If his contract wasn't insane, I'd trade him for a high 2nd.

RB's are too easy to find. Trade him for a 2nd, draft one in the 4th. Just like how he originally got to Dallas.

His cap number is too high, though. You'd have to eat the cap of an additional high pick(not too bad) - but his contract + dead money.. uhhh.

No, no, no, no. My price for Barber would be much steeper and not because he's worth it. My problem with this sentiment is that at the end of the day, Choice and Felix still have huge question to answer; Barber does not. We know what we have in Barber. Felix could be an injury waiting to happen. And Choice was introduced to the starting lineup late in the year with fresh legs going up against teams whose defenses had been playing for every game. Maybe that's a small matter at the end of the day, but he hasn't proven he can be effective throughout the season. Sorry, I wouldn't even put Barber on the trade block and wouldn't consider trading unless a team who had a fairly high pick was willing to give me their 1st and 3rd rounder for this year and 1st round for next for Barber and one of my 4ths!

On the other hand, I might consider trading Choice, but still, you would have to be willing to give a 1st rounder that's picking 20th or higher to get him. All in all, I like our situation at RB, which is one of the few places with little question, because for every question mark about one of the RB's, it is answered by one of the others.

Any competent GM in the game would do this deal in a heartbeat, but at the same time any competent GM wouldn't offer a first for Barber.

I don't know of a player who is untradeable if the price is right. As for the comments RB are a dime a dozen I think avg backs are a dime a dozen same can be said for an avg LB, WR or any other position quality players are quality players no matter the position. As for Barber I think he is a bit better than avg

I agree that average RB's are dime a dozen, but there are also elite and great backs that come along every generation. Adrian Peterson is one of them, and we probably won't see another back like him for years. In that same breath, I think Barber is a special back. He isn't elite but he sure isn't easy to find in the draft.
