My point in submitting this thread is not to excuse the players from poor play, because there was enough of that to go around. But rahter, I want to adress some coaching-related definciencies that sometimes doom this team. I firmly believe that this was a game where such deficiencies directly contrubuted the loss, especially the magnitude of the loss. Our coaches were plainly OUTCOACHED by theirs; on both offense and defense; here's how:
OFFENSE: It started with a bad offensive game plan where we chose to come out throwing, and continue throwing, against a DL and LBs that lost their best run-stopper and had no answer for our running game. Yet we instead chose to try to get into a shooting contest with Breese ??? And when we ran, we hardly ever used both our RBs together. Instead of doing this to cause match up problems for their defense and control the game, we played into their hands – throwing on a day where their DBs played well and our WRs did not. Maybe this last part could not have been predicted, but after the first half it was known; yet we went with the same flawed game plan in the second half. No adjustments! WHY!?!?!? We wee only down 14 with a whole half to go and enough time to try and get back in. The key would have been a running game we never chose to utilize. WHY!?!?!?
DEFENSE: It seems we were running a defensive game plan that was geared towards stopping Breese, but took no accountability for the rest of their backfield. We had great success against their offense on the rare plays where we played man-to-man coverage on their WRs – a match up that favored Dallas - and spread the rest of the defense out to cover the flats. This also brought Roy closer into the Box where he plays best. The problem is, we hardly ever did this. Instead, we lined up in soft zones and drew Roy back into coverage. And they threw those flair-out-screens on us ALL DAY with success. And when they were not doing that, they were exposing R. Willimas in coverage. What was disturbing was that we did not adjust at halftime because our wrong defensive alignments continued, as did their flair-out-screens, and they continued to work.
THE BOTTOM LINE: Our coaches went into the game with the wrong game plan on offense and defense and lacked the ability to adjust or change it after the half. The coaches can blamed the players all they want for executing poorly, but it’s more than fair to put this loss on the coaches for preparing Dallas’ players poorly and miss-managing the play calling throughout the game. What’s disturbing is that we have seen games like this before where our coaches went in with the wrong plan, and when doing so, they demonstrated the inability to impellent contingency plans and halftime adjustments. Coaches can blame players all they want for repeat errors that go uncorrected, but this is a coaching mistake that has gone on under Parcells’ watch far too long and it remains uncorrected.
The Wrong Game Plan + No Adjustments = OUTCOACHED
There’s no simpler formula than that.
