Just watched a little of the Indi preseason game I saved, since it's the only Cowboys preseason game I got to watch from NE Ohio. As I watched Matt Moore take over for Brad Johnson, I couldn't help but see the sudden & swift change from 3s & outs to zipping the ball down the field with bullet spirals. In a matter of 4-5 plays, we're in the red zone, compared to punting from our own 35.

This is not to say Moore was better than Johnson......or is it? Just kidding....maybe. However, I think one of the best ways to tell just how good your player is, is from what other teams think about him. It didn't take long for the Cowboys to see just how well thought of Moore was, or is.

Obviously, waiving Moore was a gamble to try to slip him onto the PS. A stupid gamble, however. I mean, come on, we only have two QBs on the active roster. What would it have hurt to leave Moore as our #3? Nothing. Oh, yeah, I forgot, we wouldn't have been able to bring in that famous cover corner, Evan Oglesby. Wow, now I see their thinking.

There is a reason that San Diego, for example, has built a better roster than us over the past 3-4 yrs. They have second choice. They just wait for us to pick the Bobby Carpenters, then they take the Antonio Cromarties. We take Anthony Fasano, they take Marcus McNeil. We take DeMarcus Ware, they take ....., well, you get my drift. While we've been taking good, decent players, they've taken All-Pros. It wouldn't be so bad if they had first dibs!

The bad decisions go on to who we keep, as well. We waive Matt Moore, someone else scoops him up. Well, at least no one got Richard Bartell. Of course, no one wanted him, either.

so it was a mistake to let go a undrafted FA?

Because in preseason, he looked decent?

We will rue the day...

We'll see whether it was better drafting or better coaching. In any case I believe they've got a real GM and we've got Jerry.

Yea it was a mistake, Tony Romo was an undrafted FA and so was johnny unitas. Drafting is not an exact science otherwise Marcus Spears and Bobby Carpenter wouldn't have to pay for dinner in order to get near the qb. We can't draft worth beans so anybody we come across as a FA that plays well we should keep. I'm sorry we will rue the day this guy had potential..

Who is Anthony Romano? And you think we made a bad decision on drafting Ware?

Perhaps the moderators should open a new zone titled "Lamentations" so all may go talk to their heart's desire and make piece with all perceived "ones that got away".

So are Chris leak, Darrell Hackney, Jared Lorenzen and Cullen Finnerty.

There's going to be so much rueing going on league-wide once these guys get canned.

Great, more people who think they know more than the coaches, scouts, and team officials just by watching a guy throw 25-30 passes against guys who at this very moment are applying for $35,000 - $40,000 a year jobs.

I can't wait for the threads when Moore is Qbing the Desperados in 3 years!

San Diego waived Drew Brees, or at least let him go, and he took New Orleans to the NFC championship game in his first year of the system. Phillip Rivers lost his first playoff game.

Practice squad...........If i'm an correct, we can sign him off of any Practice squad..........or at minimum force Carolina to sign him onto their regular 53 and then force them to release a player from the 53...........probably one of thier 3 QB's they did keep...........

so, lets flush the bird out of the bush if Moore is indeed so great.........force Carolina's hand in the matter, and see what the Boys' and Carolina really think of Moore............

After all these years on the board, I still never get the fascination for discussing the #3 quarterback on the roster.

Every single interview from Jerry Jones to Stephen Jones has been consistent.

They wanted him as a developmental prospect, but didn't feel he was worth a roster spot.

So they waived him, hoping he would come back.

He didn't.

Stephen Jones stated they waived two and wanted one back. They got Bartel because he was more underexposed.

There's no misevaluation at work here. The Panthers wanted a third QB. They could afford one with their roster situation, we could not.

That is all there is.

I am in agreement with Woody's Girl. I don't understand why this is even worth a discussion.

What was Moore going to do? Backup Romo next year, making us the only team in the NFL with two undrafted free agents as our quarterbacks? Somehow that is desireable?

I'm confused. The discussion was about Matt Moore and then there were comparisons to San Diego. The Chargers did not make the 2nd choice to pick up Matt Moore after Dallas released him. Moore had good moments. Bartel looked decent against the Vikes. Maybe he is the young QB prospect that should have been kept. I also know that one of the Chargers 2nd choices had to miss 4 games due to steroids.

I think it was a long term mistake to expose matt, but of course it made a world of sense short term. too bad other FOs were watching too closely to bite on bartel.

But the 'rue the day' idea I cannot dismiss. That day may be far down the road (and have little to nothing to do with how well Tony performs), but I think we'll rue losing Moore sooner or later, if just for the trade value he will one day represent.

Call me crazy, but I think Moore had something worth hanging onto and developing. Yeah, almost every team has a third QB, but some, like Matt Baker are worthless. I think Moore was a step above that, and I think he'd have been more valuable than a couple of the guys we kept.
