ho hum...another week, another terrible effort...we got out and out manhandled yesterday on both sides of the ball...thoughts:

1) poor Drew Bledsoe...the guy had to be licking his chops to be facing a team that had only one sack in 3 games and had yielded nearly 900 yds passing...yet he was hammered repeatedly and had a terrible day...he had some people open but missed most of them because the the Raiders front 7 played like the 85 Bears against our horrendous OL...run blocking and pass blocking get a big, fat F for yesterday

2) I cant go further w/o mentioning that juggernaut Niners team that we barely beat last week got absolutely lambasted last night by the 0-3 Cardinals starting a backup QB...Tim Rattay looked like the scrub that he really is vs the Cards and was benced (again) one week after looking like Joe Montana vs our pathetic defense...yeah Zimmer supporting goobers, he does a GREAT job doesnt he?

3) I notice Parcells spent alot of the postgame distributing blame for the loss, I notice he didnt mention himself...its almost a weekly occurence now to see this team outcoached and outmotivated in every way imaginable, isnt it time he accept some of the blame? He made several other in game blunders...lets start with the end of the 1st half, with almost 50 seconds left and 2 timeouts left they punted the Raiders deep, the Raiders then showed they simply wanted to run out the clock, and rather than use the timeouts Parcells let all but 7 seconds run off..wouldnt a smart coach see this an opportunity to get Terrance Newman on the field for a potential big return? at least they might have had time to get a FG...instead Parcells lets the time basically expire, puts Patrick Crayton deep and then argues for 2 seconds to be put on the clock so he can have Bledsoe heave a hail mary...Parcells blunders on the offensive game plan, trying to force a run game that isnt working repeatedly...Parcells also blunders at the end of the game, with a 4th down play and all 3 timeouts remaining, genius doesnt realize that if they dont make it they still have an ample opportunity to use the 3 timeouts and get the ball back with some time remaining and good field position...instead Parcells wastes a TO, and of course we dont make it...the point turns moot as we cant stop a team we know is going to simply handoff to burn clock from getting a cheap first down in two plays

4) more on Parcells...why is this team fundamentally so bad? this is yr three here, and its still a poor blocking and tackling team...look at this corp of assistants, honestly, would any of them have jobs elsewhere? maybe a couple at best...He has surrounded himself with an incompetent coaching staff, and it shows on game days..we had a prime opportunity to be 4-0 after stealing a win in San Diego, instead we're 2-2 and heading into the meat of the schedule...why does this team appear to flat and listless every week? The Raiders were 0-3, yet they were flyaing around all over the place and playing with alot of emotion...we looked like freaking zombies

5) nobody on the OL played well yesterday, but Petetti and Al Johnson looked particularly bad...and its 4 weeks into the season, and I cant see how Marco Rivera was worth the 9 million signing bonus we gave him either...and this was vs a team that had put no pressure on the other teams QB's and had only one sack in 3 games

6) we have alot of talent on defense, but you'd never know it most days...this is hands down the worst coached defense in the league and the easiest defense for any team to prepare for...you basically know exactly what every player is going to do and where each player is going to run to on every down...Roy Williams was totally taken out of the game plan by OUR COACHING STAFF for the 2nd week in a row...third week in a row we've yielded a 70+ yd pass on defense...this time the genius that is Zimmer thought it would really be smart to ahve rookie DeMarcus Ware and Keith Davis (who is horrible in coverage) try to play Randy Moss..result, easy 79 yd bomb that should have been a TD if not for great play by Newman to catch Moss...also saw Davistrying to cover Moss deep downfield later in, bonehead left Moss and tried to help Newman on the underneath guy...Moss was wide open for big play on the sideline, but fortunately Collins threw a bad ball...Lamont Jordan had almost as many yds rushing yesterday against us as he did total in his first three games...that after last weeks utter embarrassment against the Niners, in which they scored more pts and had more yds than they had in their first two games combined

7) honest question...look at this teams play, is THIS worth 18 million? Thats what Jones is paying for it (Parcells contract)...this is the same uninspired, poorly prepared garbage we saw for years with Campo and Gailey, and they only cost about 500k per yr

8) I cant see us winning any of the next 3 games, and expect that all 3 will be pretty ugly, one sided losses...looking at the entire schedule now and seeing how poorly we are playing, you'd be hard pressed to see this team winning more than 5 games this yr

I think Oakland was underrated going into this game.

They blew 2 FG's seattle style against Philly last week.

They could easily have 2 wins now.

I held off for a while about jumping the GROZ bandwagon...but I'm buying my ticket now. Our defense, 3-4 or not, is so vanilla sometimes and makes average offenses look great. Even Moose Johnston was questioning our coverage schemes.

This puts it in perspective............the Raiders were ranked 31st in pass defense and 11th in run defense.

What area would you attack?

The defense always gets off to a poor start, but you can see the rookies coming together, inspite of Zimmer.

I think that Peyton is limited as to what plays to call. I think if it was left up to him, he would have attacked the Raiders through the air.

One question....did the Cowboys blitz once yesterday?

Some but not much Dallas played quite a bit of zone coverage. And even though Moss had a catch for 78 yards it lead to no TD and Moss did not do much afterwards. Running game of the raiders is what killed Dallas not the passing game of the raiders.

Oakland was favored going into this game, but give them credit fo making the most out of every opportunity they got. You just have to tip your hat when Janikowski kicks a couple of 40+ yarders off a dirt infield in the 4th quarter. If he just misses that 49-yarder, for example, we only need a FG to tie at the end.

The Raiders squeezed out every point they could get, while our offense kept squandering opportunities. Key's illegal motion that nullified his TD was a 4-point penalty. Bledsoe totally ignoring Witten on 4th down at the end didn't help either.

With Campo we got three and out most of the time on offense with no hope of winning many games. The Raiders are good. The Eagles barely beat them at home. We played them in Oakland and they were looking at 0-4 if they lost, in other words their backs were against the wall. We should have won but we sure didn't stink up the joint.

OK.

What about Zimmer's boss?

You ever hear that a fish rots from the head down?

The Raiders were doing that because they absolutely HAD to have this game. At home and a loss sends them to 0-4. I knew they were going to be playing like crazy to keep from going winless the first month. They had to... their season was hanging in the balance.

Add that to the fact that they really aren't a bad team and I knew we could be in trouble yesterday.

The fact that it came down to the last second with us having the ball down near their goal line is a litte encouraging, actually. Some of our recent Dallas teams (read: 5-11) would've rolled over in a situation like that, and ended up with a 28-6 score.

It'll be alright.

Oakland was last in pass defense because they got torched by the Eagles. Philly is able to put up a lot of points on any team. I don't put much trust in defensive and offensive rankings until the middle of the season. This Raiders team is better than 1-3.

On the other side of the ball, I'm not sure what you people expect really. This is a team that will get better as the season goes on. I've been saying all along that I'd be happy if we got to 9-7, and I still think that mark is very possible.

David,

I have to agree with your assessment. I'll specifically comment on the Defensive Secondary.

Missed the first few minutes of the game - turned into see Davis out of position with Moss going deep. Again, thank god for TNEW's speed. This pass defense will be exploited for the rest of the season.

Did Pile even play yesterday? I though Parcell's wanted to rotate him and use Davice for ST.

Roy needs to stop trying for the big hit and play football. Every tackle does not need to be a highlight. It's like he's so focused on crushing the guy that he's either late or misses the tackle.

Good points David, I didn't see the game (Stuck here at work) but listened on the net.

But I know nothing changes here...

We as many have pointed out, seem to play to not lose rather then to win...

That has to take away the players heart...
I can't imagine having to play for a major WUSS like zimmy?

If Zimmer's defense can't stop the run, what's the point? Our Pass D has been getting torched and now we're giving up the run on top of that. Either BP steps in and takes control of the D, or he's already running it (and if that's the case we're screwed)

What kind of excuse is that? WE HAVE TO WIN, TOO!

We have to win as many games as possible. We are not alright. We won't be alright until Parcells pulls his head out of his you know what and starts gameplanning week to week instead of using the same damn gameplan against every opponent. Face it, our offense is the most predictable offense in the league.

I think our defense will be better even though I still don't trust Zimmer, but right now Parcells and Payton are losing respect very quickly.
