you never draft a kicker / but we need a vet kicker!

wonder if all that talk will now simply go away.

you've got to give things time and you've got to take some chances when you can. when we drafted a kicker, i loved it. but of course there was all the wasted pick scenarios (as there always will be) and then there was the "can't count on a rookie when the pressure is on..." talk.

and sometimes those are true. but you still need to establish a direction and go. jjones and company did and broke "tradition" much to the dismay of many.

now i wonder if we can find anyone who thinks we shoulda kept grammatica *or* that folk was a wasted draft pick.

couldn't be much more pressure than that kid was under and he came through with flying colors and earned his star last night, i must say.

It was a great use of a 6th round pick, obviously. Since kickers have a tendacy to loose confidence out of the blue, I don't believe that a first day pick should ever be used on a kicker. That said, that was some damn good kicker from a rookie.

Grammatica has never impressed me and I held my breath every time he lined up to kick a FG last season.

I had confidence in Folk from the first time I saw him kick in pre-season as he always seemed so confident. I argued with several people here when we were all posting our projected rosters that we didn't need two kickers and Folk should be the guy we keep.

His FGs this year have been right down the pipe, his kickoffs have been pretty good, if not as deep as some they are at least fairly high which gives our coverage teams time to get downfield.

His on-sides kick last night was perfect and gave us a chance to win the game. Then he won it, not once but TWICE! Definitely the hero of the game and the best draft pick this year for us.

grammy did well and it was a huge relief to see BOTH kickers do so well in camp and give us options vs. being stuck with someone. i was pulling for the rookie the whole time but only because i wanted someone to succeed who will be here for awhile. after last night, i think he will be. 2 53 yard FGs under that pressure?

well oakland was stupid for that one, sure. but day 2 picks in a weak draft? why not? esp. if a position of need and we're doing good in most other places.
