Younger Fan

RUN! Do not walk. Run to another team worthy of your allegiance.

For those of us who've seen Landry, those who've basked in the glory
of Jimmy, it's too late. We've committed too much.

But, for you, OP, it's not too late. Run. Run away now and never look back.

It boggles my mind people are actually telling the young fan not to be a fan and essentially saying he is screwing up by being a fan.

Of course it's a little harder to understand how a person develops as a fan during a time period where the team isn't successful, but so what? Hell, there are people here who became fans in the early 1960's when the Cowboys were terrible. Some became fans in the 1980's when things were bad. And this particular younger fan isn't the only one that came around after the success of the early to mid 1990's.

A lot of people start as fans because their Dad was a fan (both myself and my kids fit that description). Others become fans of the team that is situated in the area of the country they live in. Others may first be attracted to certain players or something else and their fandom grows from there.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter where it starts, but who are any of us to tell him his decision was the wrong one? If he feels it's right for him, then it is.

Man, some of you people act like the only time you should love your team is when they're winning.

I can't possibly fathom why you'd be a fan of this team. There are so many better choices out there.

I knew the Landry years of class and innovation. I knew the Jimmy years of intensity and discipline and domination.

When Jimmy left, it's been the years of the drunken hillbilly who'd rather lose than see a coach be credited on a pedestal.

The Clampetts in Beverly Hills. Disgusting.

Look at the Ravens or Steelers, and how brilliantly they're run. The Chiefs, Rams, Seahawks, Titans, Packers....there are just so many better options out there.

I'm stuck with Jed. Too old to change. Not that it hasn't crossed my mind.
I watch this team, and then I watch teams that are well run and well coached to wash the stink off...

I gotta disagree with ya here, Run.
The OP is 27 years old.
Picking the Cowboys to be your team, say, 20 years ago,
would be equivalent to choosing the Lions.

No disrespect, but by that logic, all Patriots fans should be under 25, all Packers fans should be geriatric, all Eagles fans should be 5, and all Washington fans should be....well, there really should never be any Washington fans.

You're right, I guess.
Just trying to save the kid from the agony.

I love the way you ended your post.
I'm surrounded by those idiots.

He's already hooked anyway. Besides, he'll outlive Jerry, so he'll probably see at least another SB.

Trying to respond to many on this thread within the same post. Guys I'm in too deep man. I've got it even worse, I didn't mention it initially but my cousins are Packers fans, it kills me every f****** year when the Packers seem to pull it out but the Cowboys just keep crumbling. I can't watch games with them anymore because I can't even explain some of the decisions made on the field with JG, now they've told me it will be the same old with MM. My response: "there is no way MM is worse than JG", I think we are NOT seeing that now but what we are seeing is that the coach is pressing to make a mark and it's reflecting onto the offense players specifically Dak. The only player appreciated in my circle of friends has been Dez Bryant. I had to convince people Tony Romo was good for years, because for years he would throw a pick to kill or end the game. Fairweather fans would see this on Sportscenter and think that's what made him, general public didn't realize how smart he was until he got into the booth. You already know how it is with #4.

I live in Canada. I've been to 20 Cowboys games and been to AT&T 4 times. There's no going back now boys I'm in it forreal. My basement is decked out in Cowboys gear, I am as well win or lose. My German Shepherds name is Dez, that will show you how real it is with me. When you guys tell me to run, it's more fun to see your team come from the depths of hell to success, and honestly being a fan for almost 14 years now trust me I've gotten the brunt of the s*** end of the stick from friends and family. I'm at the point now where on Sunday my phone goes on airplane mode, and depending on the outcome won't come off that for quite some time. The year we went 3-5 and traded for Cooper was one of the more exhilarating years we've had since we went 13-3, 12-4. We've done it before, just need to build on success, that is why I will cheer for the team because even though the success it slim when it comes it is fun to watch.

For the now:

This team has potential, I just always thought it was held back by the coach. Understandable now it's held back by the family. I will be a fan until I die and I will never ever switch to another team, the closest thing I have is liking the 2000's Baltimore Ravens defense and I will leave it at liked.

Dak is better than Wentz, that's facts. I want Dak to succeed, I think MM can make him succeed, I do think MM needs to slap Nolan with his extra 10 lbs in his hand and tell him he needs to FIO or he's out of a job. This defense has never been this bad, they know they're letting the offense down I don't think it will continue. I'm telling you guys 3-0 coming right up, but the cardinals game will be the one to have everyone buy in. I am terrified if Tyron is out, but these threads of him needing to retire are premature. MM will gameplan us out of this, preseasons over now.

Edit - record

68yo and been a fan since the beginning.

Watched Tom Landry turn a laughable expansion team into champions and perennial contenders and then saw him sadly fall.

Loved the Jimmy years, but never thought I’d see 25yrs of horse-pucky.

Too old to quit, too stubborn to die.

Same for me,been a fan since 75...this poor dude is screwed..lol

I’m a fan born in 1993. So I’ve missed a lot of the successful years of this franchise. My bond with the team started when we got T.O.

.

That is when? I suggest you do some history on the Cowboys and that guy. Enjoy.

I get disappointment, but why rage?
I dig what you're saying...but for THIS franchise,25 damn years is way to long to have zero playoffs success, not even a stupid championship game let alone a super bowl appearance..so I'm sorry but people have every right to be supremely pissed off..I grew up in a time where getting to the championship game and super bowl was our birthright, where people, even though hated us, always respected us...those days are long gone..used to be a time that we owned damned near every playoff record, sadly that's gone also..and you wonder why people are raging, that's why.

Birthright? That seems like a sense of entitlement plays a part in this outrage. I used to take it personally too, but not to the point that I thought the team owed me something. I'd get mad during a game and maybe for the next day, but then I realized all that does is eat you up inside, and for what? A game. It's just a game. Hell, the people living in the DFW area don't even have to deal with the smart*** comments from opposing fans. I live smack in the middle of Patriots country and Giants Central. All you have to do is remember that you're not on the field or in the front office, so you have no responsibility for the crap they do.
