Your Most Exciting Season?

I was thinking before last Thursday's game how much I was looking forward to the game coming on that night. It had been a long time since I was anticipating a game that much.

So, in light of that I thought I would throw out an interesting (to me anyway) question.

What is your personal most exciting season ever? By that I mean, a season when you were most fired up, most tied to it emotionally, when they won or when they loss you found yourself reading every newspaper article, watching every sports center report, etc. You lived and breathed it.

Note: I'm not asking which season you think was the best in our history or anything like that, I'm simply talking about from the standpoint of fandom, what season were you most wrapped up in?

Also give me your reason why that was, as you remember it, or if it is this season, why you feel the way you do.

Up until now 1992 was for me the most exciting. I had waited 15 years for another shot at the Super Bowl. If we can win it all this year, I think this team could surpass the excitement of that year.

This year is very exciting, as exciting as all years we were doing well. I get excited each year but to me, this season is very exciting, certainly lot more than past dozen years or so.

I have two that stand out to me prior to this season.

1977 - We got Tony Dorsett in the draft that year and I couldn't believe it. I was so pumped up about that. I can remember being so aggravated because I wanted Landry to play him more through most of the season. It felt like we were only a running back away from a championship and sure enough that proved to be the case.

1992 - Like Hos said, it had been SOOOO long since a Cowboys team had been to a Super Bowl. The team came together, they played outstanding, and won the Super Bowl. What a game that 92 NFC Championship was in SF!

This season: This season has a great feeling to it. I feel the team is really coming together right now. The defense scares me to death sometimes, but I feel like we play defense well, right now, at key times, and I also feel we have enough offense to overcome some of the defensive failures. The Patriots last two games also give me the feeling that all the NFC put downs may be proven to be without merit in the end.

This year has kind of a late 70's feel for me, in that the Cowboys were the class of the NFC but the AFC overall seemed to be stronger. We got a Super Bowl win in one of those years, 77, over a surprising Denver team.

Like the majority, the 92 team was awesome and I was glued to every game/article regarding the Cowboys! The build up of that team and that season was a long time coming and they did not disappoint!

This year has a lot of parallels but not quite the same though. The media was much more friendly towards our team so the overall feel was much better. Now the media looks for any angle to slam us (and many other teams) so they take a bit of the shine off. In addition, our boys could face a 3 time SB winning team vs. 2 time SB losers.

I've thought about this since this thread was posted and all the Super Bowl years were great. I always follow the team closely at the first of the season but when things don't go to well I tend to not get so deeply involved, I guess it a self-defense system.

But for me the greatest year has to be 1971, after all those years of coming up short we finally did it. Oh yeah we also finally lost my user name as a team label.

Like everyone said, 1992 was so great because we were supposed to be a year away, but we just kept winning and winning until people realized how good we were. That 1992 NFC Championship game is my favorite ever, with the Harper catch to seal it my favorite play ever.

2003 was actually pretty fun because again, expectations were so low. Parcells got us a lot of attention even though we'd been bad, and every win felt like a bonus after three 5-11 seasons. I loved all the risky zero blitzing we did that year. But of course that team was never a threat to win it all.

This year has been amazing. I had some bad things going on personally early this year, and if we'd hired Norv I might have lost it. I remember that for some reason I woke up at like 5:00am -- way earlier than usual for me -- and for some reason turned on the Ticket. They were saying that Jerry had decided on Wade. What a relief.

And it's been all good pretty much ever since. The Pats have been a fun villian to root against, and unlike some other pretty good years we've had recently, this time we know we have a real chance to win the whole thing.

1981 and 1985 stand out to me as two of my favorite years. I really liked those teams. The catch game was a big letdown because that 1981 team was probably second best in the league by a tiny margin. The 1985 team was older and was no where near the top of the league, but they still won the division and I really enjoyed seeing the old guys battle. That was my first year as a DCW subscriber and that was back when the DCW was meaningful.

For me it was the 75 season, Dallas had missed the playoffs the year before in 74. Dallas made it to the playoffs as a wildcard and beat Minn on the Hail Mary and the following week beat the crud out of the heavy favorite Rams teams to advance to the SB. That for me was one of the most exciting seasons to top it off I went to the SB game that year. We knew we were going to the game prior to the Cowboys/Ram game so there was still doubt about who we would see.

This is easy for me. I moved to the Metroplex in 1989. Tickets to the Cowboys games were going for half price by scalpers. I told my wife that we ought to get season tickets the next year, so we applied. We got tickets that were basically in the end zone, near the tunnel where the Cowboys came out of the locker room.

I asked for an upgrade the following year, because it seemed most of the action was at the other end of the field. We got tickets in the upper level, on the 10 yard line. I loved those, my wife hated them because it was so far from the action, but I got to at least see the whole game. We never missed a game that year.

The 1992 season was just magic. Sure, there were some disappointments, notably losing to the Eagles and the Commanders, but, the post season was great, and the Super bowl win over Buffalo 52 - 17, well, what can I say.

The next year was even better, because it was against Buffalo again, but the 1992 team was the best.

this year because I understand the game a lot better now than the 90s and am able to enjoy it beyond the simple trying to score a TD or field goal.

That year was great. Losing to the Eagirls on MNF early, then avenging the loss in the playoffs. Wrapping it up with the slant to Harper in the NFC championship game then the beatdown in the Superbowl. Just a great season.

Time to win another one.

This year easily. Before this year, I had accepted mediocrity. I knew we were average at best. Perenial playoff contender but not a real threat to the very good teams of whatever year were in. Coing out of the gates, I tempered my enthusiam and watched. After picking my jaw up off the floor, I allowed hope to creep in. Soon, I watch and realized this team is for real. Every win, its like, WOW, when we play our ball, we can impose our will, Hit you in one shot or take 10 minutes off the clock. We can 3 and out you and the turn over rate is through the roof it seems from previous years. During the first have of the Packers game, It looked like the D had hit a point where they were gelled. I was really getting pumped, then Rodgers came in and burst my bubble on that.

Bottom line, while the 92-95 Cowboys just totally were a blast, I knew they were good and I only watched to see how many points we hung on em this week. Everyone knew we would win. This team is magical. Came out of nowhere really. They are young and the owner loves to win and will pay to keep the stars shining, now there shining again. I am truely appreciating this team. I was younger and impatient in the 70's and did not appreciate those championships, relished in them, but did not appreciate them for what they were. The 90's Boys I gloated and truely enjoyed them, but again, took it for granted that the trophy was my birth right. The 99-07 Spurs taught me what a championship team really is about. Taught me to truely appreciate what there sacrifices are for, what it means. The Astros so close to winning it all losses here lately in the NLDS and the WS just tore me apart and coupled with the Spurs wnning, I realize how hard it is to assemble a team that can play together, that will play together, that will accept the coach and his schemes. How fickle the year can be, injuries can deail a team quicker then you can say OH NO!

Do you realize the work it takes to make the boys click like they do. And to see them having fun while doing it tell me two things, They are prepared, you cant react to situations like they find themselves in, unless your prepared for them. Great coaching, and 2) They have no fear, again cause there prepare, but they realize what the task at hand it, they know they have the tools to do the job, They know the owner has their back. So they can do one thing. Play ball. No looking over their shoulders,no wondering what that teams doing, they know what your doing and dont care what you do.

This is truely a magical team. I hope everyone truely enjoys and appreciates this team for what they have done. I hate to give Parcells credit for anything, but his groceries have ripened into a bounty of talent and Phillips has tailored a scheme to maximize their talents and get the most out of each player. Its showing all over the place. Romo throwing 33 TDs already, something no other DALLAS QB has ever done. Check out the leaders in scoring. Theres Dallas in the top 2. 30+ points a game. Look at the take aways. Check out the 3rd down conversion rate.

MAGICAL.

This is a tough question. As a 38yr old fan I spent the majority of my life waiting for that next Superbowl that finally came in 1992.
That year's postseason will always be my favorite.

Favorite/most exciting season was 1993. Emmitt's holdout and going 0-2. The pressure to come back from that deficit was huge, making for some exciting games.
We were the best team and everyone knew it. So as fans we could enjoy that. But since we got off to such a bad start, we could take nothing for granted thereby giving each game meaning.
And that season's final game in NY was a masterpiece.

Nothing tops what Landry and Staubach did in 1975.

The year before, no team in the NFL was using the shotgun formation, no one had ever heard the term "3rd down back" or "Hail Mary" as it applied to football.

Landry took a team with 12 rookies that was supposed to be in a rebuilding year, revived the shotgun formation, utilized Preston Pearson as a third down specialist, and the Cowboys made the playoffs as a wild card. Two road playoff wins later Dallas was in the Super Bowl again.

1985 and 1992 for me. I agree with you about 1985. There was an inevitable tragedy to that team but they did battle right up until Eric Dickerson destroyed them in the playoffs. There was so much character: Mike Renfro, the thieves, Too Tall and a young Jeffcoat, Danny White, Steve Pelluer stepping in to save the day, Dorsett's last great year.

I was going to mention 75, I can remember the hail mary like it was yesterday. I also enjoyed the 91 season too.
