They are clearly going to use Micah Parsons to fill the void
Agreed. DT, LB immediate need for defense to flourish now.
So then why did they offer Gregory 70 million if they already had their DE?
My fear is they will ruin this kid instead of building off this kid
its not clear draft is coming and other DEs are still around with less big name potential but still hitting the market and more to come..
i get the rumblings and we did lose RG and now have very little options but i am guessing look at the second cuts soon to happen as they did today guys like C,Cambell, Ingram, Nassib, and others..its not as big of name but draft day 1st round just hope they don't reach for taco type at 24 still got to take BPA..
last hope a trade right before the season if they dont like what happens in camp.i mean that how Miler ended up wit the rams before the TD..
Doubtful. Why try and sign Gregory then?
Sign Bobby Wagner and all is forgiven. Keep in mind the people who want Micah rushing the passer less on NFL network are Cowboy haters
I’m thinking this is the route they will go post Gregorypocalypse lol
Don’t let them hurt you like this my guy
They need a LB then. They will also need a strong rotational player.
I think that is the Joneses' thinking heading into the draft. They like to have starting bodies at all positions, and it's most likely that Parsons is looked at as the starting DE. I expect them to bring in a couple of cheap vet linebackers to fill those starting spots.
Right now, the defensive starters are IMO:
DEs Lawrence, Parsons (in pseudo-3-4 fronts, Parsons may play linebacker)
DTs Gallimore, Odighizuwa (and Hill in 3-4 fronts)
LBs Cox, ?, ?
CBs Diggs, Joseph (add Brown in nickel)
Ss Wilson, Hooker (may change to Kearse and Wilson/Hooker)
That should scare the life out of opposing offenses.
At end, they probably consider Basham a strong rotational player.
I hope to Heavens so! This mix and match stuff has not been working well.
Like your thinking...but I hesitate to think of Parsons as a DE....why...that would mean come contract time, Stephen Jones would have to pay Parson DE money not LB money and we all no how cheap Stephen Jones is. The Jones boys are not gonna wanta pay Diggs and Parson big money....
They paid DeMarcus Lawrence market value and they'll do the same with Parsons. They are not cheap when it comes to their own free agents, just when it comes to outside ones. They even offered Gregory exactly what he is going to get from the Broncos.
I hate to offend the "Parsons as savior bunch ", but opposing offenses are going to maul him, if the Dline stands pat.
He will be fine wherever they plug him in.....he is that talented. And yes I know this franchise has grossly abused and hampered some really good players in the past....but that was before Dan Quinn. I feel like he is perfect for this D at this time and will help MP be the absolute best at what he does
That would put the LB squad in a terrible position.
How often were Lawrence and Gregory on the field at the same time?
I think we'll only use him at end in passing situations. He'll still be rushing the passer in running situations (primarily first downs), but we'll be playing the pseudo-3-4 with probably Hill, Gallimore, Odighizuwa and Lawrence on the line to give us some beef up front.
