Says it may make Martin "the highest-paid guard in the NFL or very, very close to that."

And to think, we could have had Manzel instead of him!
I won't lie, like some ppl on here :muttley: I wanted the Xbox over the socks for Christmas lol very happy I was wrong

Because he's the best player at his position and if you're even in that conversation you get more than anyone has to that point. It's the natural escalation of salaries working in harmony with a rising salary cap number.

Now having said that, I'll never understand fans who take some sort of pride when a player gets a huge deal. I'm a Cowboys fan not a Zack Martin fan. I hope they get him as cheap as possible. I hope Martin's agent makes some sort of filing error that forces Martin to play for the league minimum.

Team over player. Always.
Zero problem with that, my friend.

Romo money well spent.

Speak for yourself...No way I'm spending that on a G. We still have him under control for 2 more years...then franchise him....and then franchise him again. That's 4 years of control....@ the fraction of the price...

So we screwed you be happy with it.

wow some people here really deserve to be put in a job that they are being underpaid compared to others and see how THEY like it.

By the way I despise those that claim to be only Cowboy fans and not fans of the players.

The only reason anyone is a fan of a player here is the team he plays for. I never lose perspective of that. I don't give two craps about these players if they're not in a Cowboys uniform.

I'm suppose to want Zack Martin to take up as much of the Cowboys' cap space as possible? For what? Feelz? It makes no sense.

So I despise you and 2017's version of a man.

You would think these players have more money than what the need in life and would just stay with the team and take what offer they get in order to better their chances at a Super Bowl win. I would take less money if I had all the money I needed if it meant possibly winning a Super Bowl. I guess money needed is relative to spending habits and life style though.

This is the best plan for any player. The only exception could be a franchise QB.

Yep. Don't get too emotionally attached to modern players. Money and greed has slowly destroyed that concept. These players will go where the money is and thats ok. To me, its the Cowboy club that matters not individual players.

There are still guys like Witten who will take less money for loyalty.

I am very happy that the front office recognize where their strength is ......... now they need to stop trying to hit the lotto on talented idiots and rebuild our d-line before its too late and they waist Dak and Zeke's prime like they did Romo.

Yeah really easy to say this

Start making millions upon million..paying millions in taxes and then start shopping where millionaires shop..then let's see where your head is

Unfortunately I think that's how it works. Hes the best at his position and is signing the most current contract. Someone will surpass him $$$ in the next couple years Id imagine.
You are correct. This new contract will look like a bargain in two or three years.

Your right. Im not sure where that would rank him or how they go about the math of it, but yeah there should be a discount for an early signing.
As difficult as it may be to conceptualize, this will be a discount. We'll get him for less this year than we would have by waiting a year.

Yeah it always cost more to pay them later down the road. Makes me think of Washington and how theyve bungled Cousins contract.

I think Martin will also take a discount on top of that for an early signing. Honestly though Im not sure what the market is and how much signing early factors in. I do believe early signings in the past came with a discount. Martin however, is the best of the best and I cant see him not being paid accordingly.

I still get attached but in fairness we dont typically let our studs get away. Demarco was a rarity and I think more than anything was because of his high usage the year prior and his injury history also combined with the idea our oline was unstoppable regardless of rb.
