Zeke needs to grow up period. If this isn’t a wake up call I don’t know what is. People tend to forget that this woman accused him of DV back in Florida before he was ever drafted yet he allowed himself to be put back in the same position in July. A mature responsible adult distances oneself from these kinds of situations and he didn’t. Sit your 6 games take your medicine and learn from it. I’m all for fighting the railroad job the NFL has done but serve the suspension now and continue to fight knowing that the punishment phase isn’t a factor when the case is ultimately resolved.
Still kicking the dead horse. LOL

Don't you think this experience has already had the desired effect on him. He's not the same joker he was last season. He's been humbled and you just keep kicking him.

We'll see. Urban Meyer tried to humble him at Ohio State with intervention meetings with him and his parents, and that affected nothing.

My concern is that he's rumored to be an alcoholic. Drinks constantly. That's much harder to address than a behavior problem.

I have seen several reports about this, that apparently the rookie contracts all contain a clause nowdays that if a player is suspended for whatever reason, he loses all the guaranteed money on his contract. Thus, if Zeke is suspended he loses millions in guaranteed money on his contract as the 4th overall pick. So if Zeke gets seriously hurt, the team can release him and not have to pay him a dime since none of the money on his contract is guaranteed anymore. That's good for the team I guess, but sounds pretty bad for Zeke.

I feel bad for the guy, he gets suspended by the league, gets labeled a woman beater, loses all his guaranteed money................man, that crazy chick sure did a number on him.
Lets hope he saved up some money..

Would it be possible the team would extend him a loan against his contract to make up the difference?

To be paid back at a future date so its a personal loan not compensation.

There has to be another way to skin the cat.

Anybody know?

Jerry will likely pay him everything he's owed, so any loss of "guarantees" likely won't matter too much, unless the stigma of being the "face of domestic violence" in the NFL proves to be too much.

Let's face it, Ray Rice never got another chance. Hardy did and blew it, and Josh Brown was never heard from again. But at this point, none of them are or ever will be in the league again.

This is something a person never recovers from.

Even if Elliott gets paid every penny of his contract owed to him, he will never see the millions upon millions upon millions in endorsement money he would have before this.

Not only that, his future earnings will undoubtedly be negative impacted by this label as well. "Irreparable harm?" There's no doubt whatsoever. But the NFL still carries on with witch hunts against their own, choosing instead to take the word of proven liars and prostitues over their players.

All in the name of public perception from one group while destroying that perception with the people that actually financially support your product.
I think he can recover...... he just has one of those lovable personalities.... but he has been hurt badly

Not just the endorsements but salary, reputation and lawyer fees

The irony I see is the banishment talk.......why is DV so terrible that a player can never play again if they do it twice but once is just 0-6 games... it is silly to me....... every other infraction allows for multiple chances...... you can punch a man all you want unless he lives with you I guess

That is a violation of the salary cap.......... but there is no rule saying he can't be overpaid....just be careful with the wording

Well..

he goes and gets a loan from a commercial source and the Cowboys as his employer guarantee the loan.

they should not be able to interfere with that.

Hey..when I bought my first car..

my dad cosigned the loan..

I traded the car a few years later and never had to pay my dad anything.

same thing I believe.

The entire process of player discipline is a train wreck. From ostracizing players suffering with addiction issues, to continuing to test for marijuana when many part is the country are legalizing it, to the overactive witch hunts we have here.

There is nit one part of this process that makes sense or I should working.

Again, I would say that since fleecing the players in the CBA - which anyone working for the guys who can afford a shutdown could do - Goodell has done nothing right.

And this is the beginning of a downward spiral! How many bitter girlfriends are going to use that against college athletes coming into the league?

I'm against DV, but the process is broken and it's too late to fix, unfortunately.

Fire RG!

I doubt Zeke needs a loan...... he has been paid over 18m since signing.......the suspension will cost him 1.5m so he should be fine and he is due 2.8m next year and 3.7m in 2019

Problem is though he is not a kid, he’s a grown *** man. Got tired of that “he’s a kid” excuse when some of my Hawks players were getting suspended for not passing drug tests in 2012 and 2013. You’re making millions, don’t put yourself in bad situations, protect your future.
what were you like at Zeeks age

To put things in perspective.....some of these guys were just in high school 3 years ago....these minds aren't fully developed.

Is there a bylaw that prevents personal services contracts between players and owners?

AND remember how a top athlete is treated starting in junior high. Protected and taken care of and you keep that up long enough and they think that is the way the world is.

Its the guys that have to scratch and claw to make it that really are mature. I mean really- look at the top college stars year in year out as they come into the NFL. A large percentage have the entitlement syndrome.
