Call me Crazy, but can Spencer become as good as OR even BETTER then WARE?

I remember Ware first training camp and we kept reading the same type of reports......blowing by folks, quick, fast to the QB etc. :starspin

Spencer is so strong in addition to all the other things......could it be Zoners?

Or, am I just Crazy?

Spencer catching on: First-round draft choice Anthony Spencer has been a little quicker off the ball from his outside linebacker spot than coaches anticipated. He said he went through the "awkward phase" of learning to play on his feet, but now feels comfortable. The hardest thing for Spencer is that he's gone from playing in a Purdue defense that has two formations to one that has about seven.

I would love to see a competition between the two of them throughout the year on who can make the most big plays. Whoever wins, we win!

Ware isn't a perfect player, but I think it is a mistake to underestimate just how physically gifted he is.

I think Ware and Spencer will be different players who complement each other.

Ware - a quicker, more agile athletic freak.

Spencer - a more fiery, intense, physical player.

And together, they'll be formidable.

I think we will see what it would be like to have Merriman and Ware on the same team with Spencer. This guy has Merriman written all over him. I am looking forward to this year but next year when Spencer has a year under his belt is when I am looking for him and Ware to really do something special.

When was it, 78 or 79 or so...Harvey Martin and Too Tall bet a case of beer on who would get more sacks. Ahhhh memories.

Right on, ZC.

Like you said, Ware is a true freak. And I hate that overused term. But in his case, it's appropriate. I'd put his athletic ability and strength at his size up against anyone in the league.

Spencer won't be like that -- I don't think he's any more athletic than Carpenter -- but I like that he's a comfortable 260+ and seems to have great natural bulk and strength. He should be a perfect strongside LB for us.

he is going to gain momentum as the year goes along...i hope ellis can work things out and just play...all he will have to worry about by the end of the year is how to get to the passer....things will flip flop

Favorable reports in June in t-shirts and shorts are certainly something to feel good about. But playing in a regular season game is another situation. While I'm very optimistic about Spencer and his future with the Cowboys, until I see something live to compare these two players it may be a bit premature to start saying Spencer could be as good or better than Ware.

Another thing to consider - we have not seen the best of Ware yet. Yes folks, I believe he will be a better player than we saw last year.

:signmast: I share that same opinion--especially since Phillips will be installing a more aggressive, attacking defense.

I've read good things about Spencer, but nothing quite as Jaw dropping as I did in Ware's rookie year.

I know it's very early but agree that Spencer beginning to show the same talent Ware displayed early in his rookie season. I read somewhere that Spencer is faster then anybody thought he would be. I'm really looking forward to TC so we can see hear more about them and to those preseason games so we can see them both. Also glad to read that Phillips has been showing film of the Chargers last season and that both Ware, Spencer, etc., are getting an eye full. Somehow all I can think of is Ware, Ellis & Spencer in together in whatever combo Phillips can come up with.

Whoa calm down folks with all the Spencer could be better than Ware scenarios... Let's not forget Ware had 11.5 sacks WITHOUT a significant pass rusher opposite him for most of the year. He also had like 2 or 3 TD's last year and can cover backs out of the backfield...

I only remember the one TD against Atlanta?

I really hate this time of the year. You really can't see what everone's talking about, I can't wait until our first pre-season game, or atleast if we go back to the blue white scrimmage.

IF Spencer is even close to Ware, this could be the makings of a super bowl caliber defense.

To me, it would seem very difficult to get that type of momentum and push when attacking an offensive lineman when standing up compared to in the three-point stance... If he can make that transition that fast, that is very, very impressive... But the Ware comparisons are a bit strong... let him play a frekin' down in an actual NFL before we annoint him anything.
