Default Former NFL WR Johnnie Morton Gets KTFO

Be looking for this clip on YouTube sometime tonight.

Former NFL WR Johnnie Morton made his MMA/K-1 debut tonight. Just 38 seconds into the 1st round, Morton got caught with a straight right and got KTFO (knocked the *bleep* out). Apparently, he had to be put in a neck restraint and carried out on a stretcher.

Hope he's okay, but certainly not a way to live out his dream of fighting MMA.

Former WWF wrestler and Minnesota Viking Brock Lesnar also made his debut tonight. Won in impressive fashion, barely a minute into the 1st round.

Busted up his opponent pretty well I might add.

This doesn't shock me. I will be very surprised if anyone gets close to hurting or beating this guy. Just too big, athletic and aggressive.

He's still got a ways to go considering he has only been training MMA for a year, but everything I have heard about him is very promising. He's incredibly strong and very athletic for his size, and his trainers say that he picks up stuff really quickly. In a couple of years, he could be an absolute terror. I'm not going to put to much stock into his win last night, though...the guy he was facing is a bum.

I'll tell you why I say it. He wasn't just a paid actor as a wrestler. The guy was an NCAA Champion, meaning he knows how to actually wrestle.

I will fight a boxer. I'll fight a martial arts guy. I would not fight a wrestler. They get you on the ground and start bending and breaking you. Now add his size, athletic ability and aggressiveness and you get why I said that.

It is going to be hard for anyone to grab him to where he wouldn't know how to counter it. Bum last night or not, I think this guy is going to be freaking scary in this stuff because it isn't an act. If he loses it would almost have to be from a lucky punch or he's stupid and stands toe to toe with someone instead of getting them on the ground. Once on the ground I think it will be over in no time, every time.

JOHNNIE MORTON GETS HIS BUTT KICKED

Former NFL receiver Johnnie Morton, a star at USC and a 1994 first-round draft pick who played for the Lions, Chiefs, and 49ers, made his mixed martial arts debut on Saturday night.

If you blinked, you might have missed it.

Morton walked into fierce right hook from Bernard Ackah, and Morton's head appeared to bounce off of the mat when he landed. The fight was stopped at 38 seconds into the first round. Morton was taken out of the ring on a stretcher and in a neck brace.

After the fight, Morton refused to supply a urine sample for drug testing, and he was suspended by the California State Athletic Commission.

Morton left the Lions after the 2001 season. After a return to Detroit in 2003 for a game between the Lions and the Chiefs, Detroit CEO Matt Millen reportedly called Morton a ******. Morton recently said that he'd like to fight Millen.

After last night's showing, we have a feeling that Millen would accept.

Thanks for the links, WG.

Here's an article on the fight. Apparently Morton is suspended indefinitely from MMA and since he refused to take a post-fight drug test, will not receive the $100,000 purse he was promised.

He was also suspeneded after the fight.

Blip from this MSN article.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19012441/

Later, after most of the fights had been completed, Garcia said Morton refused to submit to a urine test required by the Commission.
“He (Morton) will not be paid and he is suspended indefinitely,” Garcia said. “He refused on the advice of his agent, whatever that means.”

I've got a prayer on my desk. It says, "Dear Lord, I pray that my place will never be with the cold, timid souls who do not compete yet criticize, for they never know or feel success or failure."

I definitely agree that Lesnar will be scary good...but I still think it will take a couple of years. I think that right now, if you were to put Lesnar up against a guy with good Brazilian jiu-jitsu, he would be beaten rather quickly. He'd be able to take a BJJ guy down and get top position, for sure, but there would still be a world of submissions that could beat him. Armbars, triangle chokes, etc...I just don't think that Lesnar has had enough time to learn how to defend himself from a skilled BJJ practitioner's game. The submission game is easily the most complex you will find in MMA, and it will take Lesnar several years to really learn how to defend it. When he does...watch out.

That's bad.

Dude gets knocked out in 38 seconds and they want him to take a urine test.

Talk about adding insult to injury.

Of course, if he was on something, it didn't work.
