4 players and a few beers..
You you can sit down with four players..any sport...any period in time...and have a few beers......................who would they be?

Mine would be ....Staubach...Shoeless Joe Jackson..(think I'd really want to hear the story of the Black Sox from him....), Vince Lombardi, and .....maybe..Jackie Robinson

I really like this question.. good job.. mine would have to be Babe Ruth, Pete Rose, Lawrence Taylor, Ty Cobb... I dont even like baseball but I still think that these 4 guys would be the most interesting guys to talk to. I mean when you said sit down and have beers with every 1's 1st guy should be Babe Ruth.

Because I'm young, I only know of many older players by word of mouth or what history is presented of them. So, I really don't have a true attachment to any of those players, nor do I understand anything about their personality. What makes this question even tougher, in most cases, you don't really see a players personality, and thats what would make that conversation good.

If I had to pick some people, I'd have to go with Reggie White, David Robinson, Lance Armstrong, and of course Bill Parcells (although he's not technically a player)

I also think four players who played together for a long time would also make for a very good conversation as they would just feed off of each other.

    Great question.

    Mine would be:

Babe Ruth- because a few beers would probably lead to a few more and then you go out and really pick it up a notch.
Emmitt Smith- greatest RB of all time. One of my all-time heroes.
Johnny Bench- My favorite baseball player of all time.
Michael Irvin- in my opinion the main reason Dallas won a few Superbowls. He was also the emotional leader of the team. On top of that a night out with him and Babe would be ledgendary.

Maybe Emmitt would get drunk enough to give me one of his touchdown balls.:beer2:

    Emmitt (of course)
Walter Payton (I'd like to listen to him and Emmitt talk)
Cal Ripken, Jr. (one of the classiest athletes of all time)
Smokey Joe Wood (one of the greatest pitchers of his day that never got the respect he deserved)

Interesting question and hard to narrow down but I guess I would go with:

    Jack Johnson
    Jim Thorpe
    Otto Graham
    Wilt Chamberlain

    As for Cowboys:

Lilly, Staubach, Bob Hayes, & Walt Garrison

    Bill Russell
    Sandy Koufax
    Roger Staubach
    Mia Hamm, or Babe Didrickson.

    Non Athletes:

I'm restricting this to people who speak English, else I'd be tempted to add a Roman emperor and Helen of Troy..

    Benjamin Franklin
    Mark Twain
    Queen Elizabeth I
Charles Darwin - I think he'd be a better dinner companion than Isaac Newton.

If I'm going to be drinking beer with them I think I'd go with:

    Paul Hornung
    Don Meredith
    Walt Garrison
    Kenny Stabler

These guys would be wildly entertaining with a few brews in them. Now for a more sober and intellectual conversation I'd go another direction but for beer drinking buddies I'd go with these guys.

Yeah he'd be fun too...but I'm more into football so I decided not to go for guys from other sports.

umm, It's Paul Hornung...I should know as I share that name. Just wish I could track some sort of relation...;)

    In any case.

    I'd go with:

    Babe Ruth
    Barry Bonds
    Michael Irvin
    Bill Parcells

Of course, this is simply the opportunist in me talking. Think of the possibilities that would provide! I'd make a mint off the notes taken from that sit down!!

I'm not surprised I misspelled it...I was just too lazy to look it up this morning. I guess I should have put the spelling <sp?> thing there but I was too lazy for that too...Sunday's are my lazy day :D
