Awesome. I really want to coach when I get done with school....preferably in some area where the game is new because I don't have the skins on the wall to ever coach where I'm from :laugh2:

I coach in Texas. I do JV level, as even now the Varsity level is all done by guys from out East. So they have much better pedigrees. I am a decent X's and O's guy, but I am much better at developing players and will never be able to coach at a higher level as I played from 95 to 07 only. Lacrosse in Texas at the time I started playing had not advanced as much it has recently with the influx of guys from out east. My college team was club and we coached ourselves. We were good, but anytime we traveled out west or east we would struggle.

Coaching is a blast, I love working with the kids. Sounds cliched but its nice to do some good and give a little back. Plus after a bad day in the office practice usually puts a smile on my face. I highly recommend you get into coaching if you can.

I'm from upstate NY, and couldn't play in high school but started playing club in college....actually a kid who played varsity was an All-American and from Texas...but I go to Western Illinois now and we don't have a coach or anything. Simply being from NY I'm basically in that role :laugh2: Tons of fun.

    Hahahaha, I bet!

The guy who is our program director played for a very good coach here in High School and he played out East in College and then coached for a few years at another D3 school has really taught me a lot. We still run into a lot of developmental/just starting out programs in our area and it's comical to watch guys who never played or only played here try to coach.

So I know what you mean about being put into that spot. My high school had a really good program so some of us were looked to to coach my college club team like you. I sure do miss playing.

You'd probably like it in NY if you miss playing. I don't really know how old you are, but there are a bunch of pickup leagues/tourneys for guys over 30.

I am 30 but I have a broken down back that really precludes me from running. Playing a game, at this point in life, isn't worth not being able to stand up right for two days after. Kinda sucks!

The town I live is considered one of the best high school lacrosse teams in the country. They were ranked #4 in the country by the STX/Inside Lacrosse National High School Lacrosse Rankings in 2008 and they are ranked #2 in the country by topofthecircle.com this year.

Growing up in Texas I never really followed Lacrosse. I should since I have a quality team to watch. Sadly, I never really gave it a chance. Maybe I will next season.

highland park? Dallas jesuit? St. Mark's? episcopal?

I'm biased but I don't think it's fair to rank teams from TX real high. They don't face the level of competition that teams from NY, Maryland, and NJ play. It's kinda like the BCS, and powerhouses from outside of the northeast or Cali/Oregon are mid-majors :laugh2:

Those four schools you mentioned are the best programs here in Texas. I agree with your assessment as being mid majors. They would give teams out east a run for their money though. Unsure if they would beat the top teams, but they would compete.

The talent gap of Texas players is closing fast though. It is not at all as far apart as it was in the 90's.

Eventually the gap will be non-existent when places like Texas and Florida catch up, but that's pretty far down the road imo. There are good players all over the country, no doubt about it, but I don't think people realize how good the northeast is until they've played there.

For instance, most of the guys on my club team are from Chicago. They can always name a handful of guys who play D1 from their division/conference or whatever. They don't understand that at any given time I can name a handful from my high school, which is very good, but is only class B :laugh2:
