Bill Bates to be inducted in Knoxville Sports HOF

    Knoxville Hall to induct 10

    Brothers Raleigh and Reggie McKenzie and Jeff and Steve Golliher will be inducted into the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame August 18th.

    The McKenzies both played football at Austin-East, then Tennessee and later the NFL; the Gollihers dominated local golf for many years.

    Also to be inducted, former Tennessee and Dallas Cowboys defensive back Bill Bates; Pat Shires who played for Tennessee under General Neyland; the late Gary Lundy, sportswriter for the News-Sentinel; former Georgia and NFL player Ted Davis, now a Knoxville veterinarian; Fred Gladding, a relief pitcher for Detroit and Houston; and Rogers Stafford, who was captain of the 1959 Porter High School girls basketball team that won the state championship.

    Former Notre Dame and South Carolina coach Lou Holtz will be the featured speaker at the August 18 induction ceremony at the Convention Center.
