This is a tough one. Both artists have had incredible careers, both are amazing piano players and singers, but if I had to choose one it would be Billy Joel. Elton and Bernie were a great tandem, but his music lost a bit for me after they stopped writing music together. Boy this should be a good thread..........

Here's one of my favorites from Billy Joel

I have to go with Elton John, but it's purely personal taste, and you can't go wrong with either.

That's a tough one but I'd say I listen to Elton John's songs more than Billy Joel.

I'm amazed this is even a thread. Billy Joel's music does not seem to live up to the test of time at all, I cringe when it comes on the radio.

    Piano Man
    New York State of Mind
While the Night is Still Young
    The Longest Time
    Keeping the Faith
    Scenes from an Italian Restaurant
    Allentown
    She's Got a Way
    Always a Woman
    We Didn't Start the Fire

I think all of these have stood the test of time. Can you think of 19 Elton John songs that have? Here's what I've got so far:

    Your Song
    Tiny Dancer
    Daniel
    Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
    Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting
    Rocket Man
    Candle in the Wind
    Bennie and the Jets
Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me
    Burn Down the Mission
    Daniel
    Crocodile Rock??
    Honky Cat??
    Don't Go Breaking My Heart??

While both are great, I have to go with Billy Joel, easily.

I would turn off the radio or turn the channel if any of these were played.

For some of them, I might also kick the dog for good measure. And as a kid, I liked his music, so it sure didn't pass the test of time for me.

You've never heard Shamless on the radio?!?!?

The only Shamless song I've heard more on the radio than Billy Joel's Shamless is when Garth Brooks covered Billy's song. :laugh2:

Not that radio play is any indicator of song quality, but I'll give you
Shameless, The Downeaster Alexa , While the Night is Still Young....

but are you serious that these 3 don't get radio play??

I think the lead singer of The Band is who he actually had a crush on.
