News: Brian Urlacher would have played for Dallas Cowboys

    Brian Urlacher told "The Rich Eisen Podcast" on Wednesday that he retired from football because he realized he is "just not quite the same player" he used to be. Urlacher later told WMVP-AM in Chicago that he couldn't envision wearing a jersey other than that of the Chicago Bears.

    The truth is there was one team that intrigued Urlacher enough to keep playing had it pursued his services: The Dallas Cowboys.

    "If I could have picked a spot, it would have been Dallas," Urlacher said, via the Chicago Tribune. "(The Cowboys) run our defense. They took our D-coordinator (Rod Marinelli).     Not sure he fits here, too bad though he's still got a little something left in the tank, he'd be fine as a one year sign on leadership skills alone.

    Unfortunately for him, he has lost a step, if not two, and he's not the most physical guy, so he won't fit on teams that don't run a cover 2. I think he could still have value in the right system, but I'm not sure where that would be.

    If we have any season ending injuries at LB after the season starts then Urlackher would perfectly fit in Dallas.

    urlacher is not done playing. someone will get hurt in the season for the bears or some other team and he will try to come back.

    lol, I find it amusing that people are taking this as Brian heaping some kind of praise on our organization.

    If you read the quote, the only reason he said that was because we have Callahan and he wouldn't have had to learn a new system. It's not like he had some burning desire to play in Dallas because he admires the squad.

    meh. the zach thomas-keith brooking method of filling in a gaping hole with a player on his last legs hasn't really worked for us.

    Not surprising, he grew up in Cowboy country. He is from a small town only a few miles from the Texas border here in New Mexico.
